Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Rob,
thanks for Your answer, but it isn´t a Phänomen Granit Kübel. Here a pic of such a Kübel for comparing.
Please, be careful, it is not a Kübel, but a truck.
Regards
Bert

Hi Max,
that´s it! Great! I am very grateful to You, that You have the right answer. I thought that cannot be! I know it was an unusual perspective. But I didn´t expect that it will last such a long time. But now it´s Your turn to go on with the quiz.
Best regards
Bert

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Thank you, Bert.
I think the reason your photo was so puzzling is that from the photographic angle the unusually spaced bonnet louvers of the Einheits LKW appeared to be flapper vents such as on the vehicles Dirk and Rob submitted. I spent a week searching for such a light lorry, spare wheel or none, before realizing that and eventually finding a view of the Einheits bonnet from above showing the "cooling squares" that Alan mentioned. That was a great challenge.
Anyway, I'm sure the Polizei vehicle below won't last nearly as long.

Hi Max,
could it be a Wanderer? Maybe the type W 22?

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Bert,
Great answer!! I was hoping it would last over 200 views like your last one but...
It's a Wanderer for sure. It's hard to tell from the back but it could be a W 22. I call it a W 26 only because I have a photo of one outfitted as a Polizei Tourenwagen: In either case your answer is feasible, so please continue with the new quiz subject.

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Max,
thanks ! But it was not a great answer! My answer is wrong! Sorry, it was a wild guess. Yes, it is a Wanderer. I could only find one pic of such a police car presented in autumn 1936. It was the only model especially constructed for the police, for the motorized gendarmerie, specialized for the supervision of the Autobahn (highway) and arterial roads. It was not identical with the normal open Tourenwagen. Source of the pic and this information: "Die Kraftfahrzeuge der Polizei und des Bundesgrenzschutzes" by Werner Oswald.
After all I think it could be the type W 51: introduced in 1936 and with two spare wheels beside the bonnet.
Best regards
Bert

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Bert,
That is quite interesting. I thought that the commercial W 51 Spezial had the newer rounded nose so this must have been a really special spezial.
I any case I have consulted with our panel of distinguished judges and they have declared the correct answer to be "Wanderer Polizei Tourenwagen", therefore you are correct and welcome to continue with the next quiz subject.
Here's another one (Pol-1703) to add to the mix,

Hi Bert,
Do you know how Pol plates were numbered, i.e. by region, or order of issued date?

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Max,
to Your question about the license plates of the police:
first the German police cars and trucks had normal license plates until 1935 (for example "IA 86753" - IA for Berlin), because Germany was subdivided in states (Saxony - Württemberg - Baden - Bayern - Preussen and so on). Each state had its own police. In 1935 the police became part of the SS in the National Socialist Germany and from then on the vehicles got the license plates with "Pol" = police. I cannot say, if the plates were numbered by region, or order of issued date, but I think that it was numbered in order of issued date.
Best regards
Bert

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Max,
very good! You are right, it is a Krupp truck. It could be the type L 2 H 242. But it could also be the type LD 2 H 242 with a Diesel engine. It is impossible to say From this view.
Please, go on with the quiz!
Best regards
Bert
