Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hi Kerry,
I just had it as a '39 La Licorne 6-8 cv so not only do you get an "A" for the correct answer but extra credit for the additional info that you so kindly provided to us.
Very well done and please go to the head of the class and proceed with the quiz!

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hello again Max,
A sad admission at my advanced age, but that is my first time at the head of the class!
My next question may be fairly easy, but here goes,
Good Hunting,
Kerry.

Hi Kerry,
Without a doubt that is a '38 Buick Series 40 Sport Phaeton!

Hello Max.
How about another Buick? I have it down as a series 90 model. Here seen from a similar angle.
Rob.

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Rob you rascal, I was hoping that the RHD might fool everyone, especially an Englishman, but you saw thru my ruse rather quickly. You are correct, it's an export version a number of which were converted to RHD for the UK and other Commealth countries. Please accept my kudos and carry on.
Cheers,
Max

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Here's another, The Buick 8 Series 90 belonging to the Duke and Duchess of Luxemburg which they used to flee the impending occupation in 1940. LHD as was usual. Note that the rear side widows have no vent in the export version.

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hello Max,
Thank you very much.
I must admit that I'm not at all comfortable when it comes to identifying cars from the USA and the RHD and the prominent badge led me initially to look at Bentleys.
I discovered that Edward VIII owned one of these Buicks
so obviously European royal families were impressed by the vehicle.
The only link between royalty and the next entry in the quiz is that the car in question is in use by the Royal Hungarian Army.
Regards, Rob.

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hello all.
It's time for a little help.
The vehicle has family ties with France, Germany, Japan and the UK but it does not come from any of those nations.

Hi Rob,
I have no idea how it got to Hungary but it looks like a late 30's Bantam Roadster from American Austin. Great question!

Re: Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Hello Max.
My next clue which involved Donald Duck's choice of transport wasn't needed!
Herbert Austin's 'Austin 7' was built under licence by Rosengart, BMW (as the Dixi) and by Datsun. An American version was marketed as the Bantam; in response to a request by the US military, the Bantam Reconnaissance Car was developed, eventually evolving into the Jeep.
The website 'revivaler.com' provides information on the subject.
What it doesn't tell us is how a Bantam roadster found its way to serve with the Hungarian Army so I'm afraid that I can't help you with that one, Max.
But well done. You have control. Rob.

Hello Max.
I think that it's a Tatra design, built under licence by France and called the Lorraine Dietrich 72.
Rob.
