Jagdtiger & Jagdpanther

#1

Post by Davy » 16 Jan 2008, 16:55

Hi,
any idea how many Jagdtigers and Jagdpanthers did fight in
the Battle of the Bulge?
I've found on the net (Achtung Panzer!) that there are 51 Jagdpanthers
took part of the fighting with 6 Abteilungen.
Is this correct? and in what units they fight (s.PzJagAbt.560 and ...)
and what was there fate, how many destroyed, abandoned, etc.?

Thanks Davy

Hi there,

No Jagdtigers took place in the Ardennes Offensive. Some were suppose to took part in Operation Nordwind shortly after but due to some transport and logistic problem, they were not able to reach the front in time. So no action for any JT in the Ardennes for sure.

On date 16-Dez-1944 :

sPzJgAbt 654: 24 (southern Alsace and not involved in the Battle of the Bulge)
sPzJgAbt 559: 5 (attached to Panzer Lehr)
sPzJgAbt 519: 9 (combat ready: 4)
sPzJgAbt 560: 13 (combat ready: 11, attached to 12.SS-PzDiv)
sPzJgAbt 655: 0

So at the beginning of the battle not more than 20 Jagdpanther were combat ready and the units lost 5 Jagdpanther in the following weeks. On 30.12.44 559 had 2 combat ready, 2 in repair and 1 lost, 519 4 combat ready and 5 in repair, 560 lost 4 Jagdpanthers.

sPzJgAbt 653 with Jagdtigers never reached the front line or took part in action in December 1944 or the battle of the Bulge.

Thanks Uli and JagdAlex,

so the picture of the 3 destroyed Jagdpanthers in Bütgenbach of s.PzJägAbt.560 and
the Jagdpanther of s.PzJägAbt.559 on 24/12/44 in Rochefort,
are rare pictures because 4 of the 20 Jagdpanthers been photographd.
