Nice vehicle you have there, but this topic got me thinking, can anybody actually tell me the number of build, and the purpose of the vehicles, ie what uses it was used for, also how many and what kind of troops were usually carried so on.

Cheers.

Hello,

oh yes, I can.
From this type were built about 60 pieces, in Berlin.

Used they were generally in reconnaissance battalions and the Kradschützenabteilungen as a staff vehicle.
But I also have pictures, who show this Sdkfz as a normal battlefield vehicle, with 6 man crew.

I have pictures, who show the sdkfz in diferent Areas of the WWII, on the eastern front (also from operation Kursk),
on the south front (italia or Greece ) and in Germany. The Divisions signs shows e.g.:

SS- LSAH
3. Panzer-Division
6. Panzer-Division
Großdeutschland
Fallschirm-Pz.Korps Hermann Göring

In 1941, each the following units were authorized Sd.Kfz. 247:

20 Panzer-Divisions:
  – Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung (armored recon battalion) one in the battalion headquarters.
  – Kradschützen-Abteiling (motorcycle battalion) one in the battalion headquarters.
  – Panzerspäh-Kompanie (armored car company) one in the company headquarters.

1 Motorized Light Division:
  – Aufklärungs-Abteilung (mot) (motorized recon battalion) in the battalion headquarters.
  – Panzerspäh-Kompanie (armored car company) one in the company headquarters.

10 Motorized Infantry Divisions:
  – Aufklärungs-Abteilung (mot) (motorized recon battalion) in the battalion headquarters.
  – Kradschützen-Abteiling (motorcycle battalion) one in the battalion headquarters.
  – Panzerspäh-Kompanie (armored car company) one in the company headquarters.

That gives 92 Sd.Kfz. 247.

Cheers
Leo
