Auxiliary fuel tank trailers?

#1

Post by Graham Clayton » 04 May 2008, 13:11

Fellow members,

I asked this question in the "Allies and Neutral Armies" section, so I thought that I would ask the same question in the "Panzers and Other Vehicles Section"

Were there any German tanks that were fitted with auxiliary fuel tank trailers? What were the capacity of the trailers, and in what circumstances where they used?

I haven't seen any photographs or documents which would indicate anything like that. I have some photographs of German tanks with fuel drums on them, but these are all taken away from the front line.

There are many photos of Barbarossa time frame with tanks towing simplistic 2-wheel trailers holding 2 fuel barrels. They probably not survived long the first bout of rasputitsa...

I must have missed those photographs entirely, then. Can you refer me to some books or websites with some examples of those photographs?

HTH,

The tanks were refuelled from the trailer just before entering combat, with the trailer removed from the front line.
