Cromwell and Firefly tanks belonging to the 1st RTR roll through cornfields outside Giberville while on their way to rejoin the rest of the 22nd Armoured Brigade at present engaged in fighting on the Bourguebus ridge. M10 Achilles 17-pounder self propelled guns from the 7th Armoured Division's anti-tank unit, the Norfolk Yeomanry, and an 11th Hussars Daimler armoured car negotiate the streets of Giberville during their advance with the 1st RTR's armour.

Cromwells and Fireflies belonging to the 1st RTR deploy in the cornfields around the village of Giberville during the regiment's advance to catch up with the rest of the 22nd Armoured Brigade now fighting for the Bourguebus ridge some four miles away. The tanks pass the long barrel of an 8.8cm PAK 41/43 anti- tank gun (lying well concealed by tall stalks of wheat) which was overrun during the previous day's advance. An M10 Achilles from the 65th Anti-Tank Regiment RA winds its way through Giberville and rolls across the Caen-Troarn railway.

I. At Ranville, section leaders watch RAF bombers attack German positions south-east of Caen at dawn. Marker incendiaries drift earthwards. In wheatfields dotted with derelict Horsa gliders, 8th Rifle Brigade's 'H' company, riding in M5 half-tracks and universal carriers, prepares to move off. During its advance to the Caen-Troarn railway, a British shell falls short (?) and explodes near a burning carrier. Beyond the first railway line, 'H' company pushes through wheatfields past Demouville with 13th Royal Horse Artillery SPGs and 23rd Hussars armour. German prisoners are sent unescorted to the rear. Near Le Mesnil Fremental, 'dead' 23rd Hussars Shermans are encountered. The rest of the armoured regiment streams towards the Colombelles-Falaise railway embankment past burning and inert 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry Sherman tanks. Shermans move up through the wheat past Grentheville. Motorised infantry and armour halt beyond the railway embankment; a tank 'brews-up' on the Bourguebus ridge in the background. A signaller with a No 38 radio refers to a mapboard before calling for a mortar barrage.
II. 'H' company assembles behind the embankment before attacking Bras. Once in Bras, infantrymen from No. 14 platoon patrol the village; with them are two 3rd Royal Tank Regiment Shermans.

I. Cromwell tanks belonging to the 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry 'brew-up' on the Bourguebus ridge during 11th Armoured Division's assault on Bras; a 3rd RTR Sherman reverses out of trouble in the foreground.
II. The camera examines a German position hidden by a thick hedgerow outside Demouville (?), notably the entrance to a dugout lined with timber and untidy jumble of soup containers, mess-tins, papers, tables, helmets, sleeping bags and Mauser Kar 98K rifles. A wrecked German BMW Kfz 2 signals car burns itself out. A Sherman tank destroyed by an '88' lies burnt-out among its own debris.
III. Accompanied by carriers and towed anti-tank artillery, infantrymen from 8th Rifle Brigade's 'F' and 'H' companies (?) deploy in extended order in wheatfields near the Colombelles- Falaise railway embankment before assaulting Grentheville.
IV. From the embankment, the camera surveys Cormelles and the Faubourg de Vaucelles, now in 2nd Canadian Corps' hands. In league behind the embankment are the 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry surviving Cromwells and Humber scout cars. A bridge carrying the Colombelles-Falaise railway line over the Caen- Vimont road (?) is seen intact. 11th Armoured Division sappers remove German-laid gelignite charges from the bridge

Traffic negotiates floodwaters in Colleville-sur-Orne.
Summary:
Three cheerful sappers from a road or airfield construction group RE ride on an earth grader through the village in pouring rain. The cameraman focuses on the wheels of various types of wheeled vehicles - notably a Bedford MW truck, a Dodge tipper lorry, several Matchless motorcycles ridden by despatch riders and jeeps, a Bedford QLR lorry, several Austin K2 ambulances and Bedford OY and CMP 3-ton lorries - motoring through Colleville along flooded streets with road surfaces that have become deeply rutted through constant use. British army personnel wade through the floodwaters.

The 11th Armoured Division consolidates territorial gains won through Operation "Goodwood".


Summary:
Shermans belonging to the depleted Divisions move up to the 8th Corps Front; soft-skinned transport can be seen using a one-way track in the background. A 151st Field Regiment RA Sherman OP tank passes underneath the Colombelles-Falaise railway near Grentheville; visible in the background an M5 signals half-track from the same RA unit, a Bedford 15cwt truck from 159th Infantry Brigade's HQ and a Daimler Scout car belonging to the 1st Battalion Hereford Regiment. Sappers remove German-laid gelignite demolition charges from the railway bridge. The cameraman observes a large factory in Cormelles (?). Two 1st Herefords infantrymen survey the suburbs of Caen from their positions. Men from the same infantry unit find some cider casks in a deserted cottage's backyard. The cameraman examines the wreckage of a Messerschmitt Bf-109 "Gustav" shot down during one of several Luftwaffe raids on 8th Corps. An M10 Wolverine SPG overtakes a 1st Assault Brigade RE Churchill AVRE. Sexton 25-pounder SPG's (13th RHA) are seen in action.

One of the many anti-tank guns responsible for blunting 8th Corps' armoured offensive during the first day of Operation "Goodwood" lies wrecked and abandoned at the edge of a wood near the Bourguebus ridge (Hubert-Folie) after having been knocked out by the 3rd RTR during its attack on Bras and Hubert-Folie on July 19th 1944. The gun, a 7.5cm PAK 40 anti-tank piece, is somewhat the worse for wear after being hit by fragments from a high- explosive shell; armour-piercing shells lie discarded on the ground nearby.

A line of 3rd RTR Shermans move up to reinforce their depleted regiment on the Bourguebus ridge. An innocent- looking hedge conceals behind it a well-prepared dug-out. It was evidently abandoned in a hurry, judging by the mass of papers and mess tins lying scattered over the surrounding area.

3rd Division's attack on Troarn is slowed down by heavy and persistent German artillery and mortar fire. The surrounding countryside bears all the signs of destruction that aerial bombing and continuous artillery fire can wreck on a battlefield.
Summary:
A 5th Assault Regiment RE armoured bulldozer clears debris off the Caen-Troarn road at Banneville-la-Campagne, a village largely torn apart by the massive RAF bombing raid that preceded Operation "Goodwood". Abandoned by its German users a "Nebelwerfer" multi-barrelled rocket mortar falls into the hands of the 2nd Middlesex Regiment, 3rd Division's heavy mortar and machine-gun battalion. A bren-gunner and a rifleman share a fox- hole in a field pitted with bomb-craters. Mortar bombs fall on positions occupied by the 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment in "Black Orchard", a place notorious for the regular shell and mortar fire it receives. In attempting to repair communications, a mobile crane comes to grief in a tangle of telegraph cables.

Units belonging to the 7th Armoured Division occupy a sector of the Bourguebus ridge as "Goodwood" grinds to a halt.
Summary:
An M10 17-pounder self-propelled gun belonging to the Norfolk Yeomanry negotiates a sharp bend in the village of Giberville. A sign in French an German tacked onto a tree warns that the area has been evacuated and that access is forbidden to all except German military personnel. Giberville's station clock shows 4.40. Infantrymen and armoured vehicles belonging to the 7th Armoured Division advance over flat and dry farmland towards the Bourguebus ridge. A ex-1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler" Somua half-track APC from Assault Gun Battalion 200 is found abandoned in Soliers. While patrolling the village, a small infantry detachment passes another derelict half-track. A 3rd Royal Horse Artillery Quad tractor tows a limber through Soliers. A group of 7th Armoured Division officers confer over a map. A cat stalks the ruins of a wrecked theatre. The camera pans from a road sign pointing the way to Cagny and Troarn to soft- skinned transport from No. 3 Group Royal Northumberland Fusiliers rumbling through Soliers.

Small quantities of German equipment fall into Canadian and British hands as Operation "Goodwood" goes on into its second and third days.
Summary:
I. Troops serving with the 6th Canadian Armoured Regiment (1st Hussars) examine equipment abandoned in Giberville which includes an MG 34 machine-gun and a Mauser Kar 98K rifle. A 1st Rifle Brigade Loyd carrier tows a 6-pounder anti-tank gun into action. Sherman Crab flail tanks from the 22nd Dragoons move up to support armour engaged in fighting on the Bourguebus ridge.
II. Silhouetted in the dawn light against a village which still burns from the previous day's fighting, an M5 half-track and a Quad tractor and 17-pounder anti-tank gun move up to the front. Outside Soliers, men serving with the 1/5th Battalion Queen's Regiment and the 5th RTR inspect a ditched Panther Ausf A formerly owned by the 1st SS Panzer Regiment, the 1st SS Panzer Division 'Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler' tank unit. In the village of Soliers, a chicken searches for food among spent and discarded shell cases.

Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS prisoners captured during Operation "Goodwood" are searched and interrogated by Intelligence officers at a 1st Corps POW cage before being sent to more permanent POW locations.
Summary:
Under the watchful eye of three Military Policemen, all armed with sten-guns, a small group of Wehrmacht and SS prisoners have their pockets emptied and their papers and possessions examined. Most of the Waffen-SS prisoners, former members of the 1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler", appear to be very young, between 17 and 20 years old; one particular SS-man, a youthful Oberschutz (Lance-corporal) is very restless. His attitude is contrasted by that of an SS-panzerman who helps a sergeant and lieutenant in the Intelligence Corps point out German positions around Banneville-la-Campagne on a map showing the countryside east of Caen.

Armour and motorised infantry of the Grenadier Guards go into action near Cagny and receive the surrender of Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe troops whose positions have either been bombed-out or overrun.
Summary:
Sherman tanks of the 2nd Armoured Battalion Grenadier Guards trail flags of dust as they move up through a wood. A troop of M10 self-propelled guns of the 21st Anti-tank Regiment RA joins the procession of armour. German soldiers surrender to the Grenadier Guards. Those Germans beyond reach retaliate by bringing down shell and mortar fire on the tanks as they approach a ridge. One of a troop of fascine-carrying Churchill AVREs keeps pace with the less unwieldy Shermans. Prisoners from the 16th Luftwaffe Field Division and the 21st Panzer Division are taken in increasing numbers (some of them badly wounded) and are marched off to the nearest POW cage. A troop of Shermans push on past a tank which burns furiously and another Sherman which lies inert in the corn. Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht prisoners congregate at an advance aid post. Having been destroyed in a brief tank battle, three 21st Panzer Division Mark IV 'Specials' litter the battlefield.
