► Photothread: Field Kitchens in Context
I do not have close photos of field kitchen equipment, but I do have a couple of field kitchens in context, demonstrating in what types of environments soldaten might have encountered them.
The photo among buildings I have posted previously for another purpose, I believe. Note the man sleeping in the truck bed to the right. Also, note the French helmet in the right foreground. The field kitchen is the truck to the left rear. Perhaps that is a supply truck to the right of the field kitchen.
The other photo shows a makeshift surface placed over boggy ground with two vehicles, one of which is the well tarpaulined field kitchen. Note the shovel attached to the side of the field kitchen vehicle, a common sight on many trucks, etc.
Of course, I have to sneak in a request for any and all vehicle identifications. I'll bet that the field kitchen truck on the bridge is a Henschell.
And, of course, thanks for the information in "Cargo Truck Question" thread which motivated me to start this thread.

Re: field kitchens in context
Hi Garlock,
I think that the trucks of your second photo are a Krupp L3H 163 and a Ford BB perhaps.

Ho John,
a good idea to start this thread with field kitchens. So I will post a pic of an Einheitsdiesel with a field kitchen.

Re: field kitchens in context
A field kitchen and/or its environs would have served sometimes as a social nexus, so its value and function can be seen as potentially being more than physically sustaining.

Re: field kitchens in context
Good pic, Bill, thanks! I've spotted on it one who most probably wouldn't eat.

Re: field kitchens in context
Just wondering what the standard meals would be on one of those field kitchens in 44. Compared to US rations' ,the average GI would not be impressed with soup.- but what a great photo, Bill. Heres one in icy Russia.
