Eqipment of Hermann von salza - SS Panzer Regiment 11

Hi all. Once again I turn to You in search of information.

I have tried to find out, which eqipment this unit had, but have so far been unable to find anything in "Die Deutsche Panzertruppe" by Thomas L. Jentz, a book I find very helpful. In this forum I have found a previous discussion on Panzer VIs in this Panzer Regiment, and according to "Lexikon der Wehrmacht", SS Division Nordland had both SS Panzer Regiment 11 and SS Sturmgeschütz Abteilung 11. There was also a picture of an early Panzer V with the original early cupola and machinegun slit in the front plate, quoted as belonging to this Regiment.

Now, pictures are often found with different quotations, so I have become rather sceptical, but I hope that somebody here might be able to help me.

Thanking You kindly all in advance and wishing You a Merry Christmas.

Roger,

I must admit that the deliveries of 18 StuG in Sep/Oct 1943 are somewhat new to me. Were these passed on to other units before the deliveries of 38 StuG to SS-Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 11 in Nov/Dec 1943?

Anyway, regarding Panzer IV/70 deliveries to Nordland, the division was indeed issued with 10 of the Vomag variant.

(My information is primarily based on various posts by Martin Block. We owe him many beers.)

Regards :milwink:

Edit: Sorry, I meant the deliveries of 18 StuG III in Sep/Oct 1943, not 28.

Hold Your Horses!
How could 11. SS-Panzer Grenadier Division "Nordland" have a Pz.Reg.
Only Pz.Divisions had Pz.Reg.´s.
SS-"Nordland" had a SS-Pz.Abt. "Hermann von Salza"; that is a Pz. Btl. not a regiment.

John Hilly,

while it is correct that Panzer Regiments primarily were reserved for Panzer Divisions, there are always exceptions, for example Panzergrenadier-Division Groβdeutschland.

In fact, even Nordland was initially supposed to have a Panzer Regiment, but this didn’t materialize during the war.

The PzKpfw.IV (kurzrohr) was retrieved from V./Grossdeutschland when the latter left the Narwa front. It seems that SS-Pz.Abt.11 also got a PzKpfw.II from the same source. Both tanks were given to Panzer-Kompanie "Narwa" on 3 June 1944. This company was equiped with 4 PzKpfw.V (einsatzbereit), 1 PzKpfw.V (Instandsetzung unter 14 Tage, z.Zt. Hungerburg), 1 PzKpfw.IV (Kurzrohr), all given by Nordland, 4 PzKpfw.IV (langrohr) and 4 SPW, given by 285.Sich.Division. The commander of this company was SS-Ustuf. Artur Grathwol. It was attached to Sturmregiment "Narwa" and was stationed in the Körtssi - Waiwina area (Sturm-Rgt. Narwa, Abteilung Ia Br.B. Nr.397/44 geh.). The documents relative to this matter can be found in T312-1628.

I know there was a V abt Grossdeutschland in 1941-2, but after GD became a division, what was the V abt doing separate from the div? Is it the Fuhrer Begleit abt?
