Re: Wood gas vehicles: firewood in the fuel tank
Hi Max:
Regarding your 128 photo, I will take a chance and say that I think it is a post war vehicle.
I can find no such Renault variant built before 1940, but the Renault 1000 KG truck introduced in 1945 and produced
until 1965 in a number of variants looks very close. As well, producer gas powered vehicles soldiered on in both new
and earlier versions for a number of years after the war.
Below are two photos of a 1945 version. Note that the tyre/wheel equipment is a bit smaller than your photo
and the wheelbase is a bit shorter but these are very early production or even pre-production photos.

Re: Wood gas vehicles: firewood in the fuel tank
Thanks for the ID, Bill. It does indeed look like a 1000 kg modified for Holzgas. I would say one of the earlier versions, as the later ones had the headlamps faired into the bodywork, but definitely postwar as you suggested.
Cheers,
Max

What do we have here? A refueling station for wood burners? "Check the wood and don't forget to clean the windshield".
Looks like a '35 Ford in the forefront.

Hi,
here a pic of a special gas vehicle, a Hanomag tractor type 55 old version I think (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction).

Hi J-P:
A Studebaker Champion, most likely 1939 year model.
A photo is below, showing the tail lights, the hubcaps, the rear window design etc. as identification tips.

Sadly a bit of light intrusion on this shot, but an unusual wood-gas conversion on an armoured car. Perhaps for a driving school?

Hi Kerry,
It looks like a Sd. Kfz. 222. I think you are correct that is a training vehicle since such an easily disabled armored car wouldn't be very effective on the battlefield.

Here is a lovely clear shot of an SS wood burner, although I am not sure of the vehicle type. I think it is from LAH, from the epaulettes of the left-hand soldier,
Kerry.
