Sd.Kfz 231 and Sd.Kfz 232
Sd.Kfz 231 and Sd.Kfz 232
Hi, the German Sd.Kfz 231 and Sd.Kfz 232 Armoured cars were in fact very similar, except for one being a Fu, all of the data I have on these AFVs say that 123 were built of both variants, but can anyone please tell me how many of each model was produced.

Re: Sd.Kfz 231 and Sd.Kfz 232
According to the Encyclopedea of German Tanks there were in fact 607 of the 231/232 built and certainly I would find a mere 123 as being far too few considering the number of them in each Panzer Division and the number of Panzer Divisions. Sadly I can't tell you how many of each type were built.

Max, it also says that only 28 x SdKfz 232 were built so how seriously can it be taken ?

Re: Sd.Kfz 231 and Sd.Kfz 232
123 may or may not be correct for the 6-wheelers.
Of the 8-wheelers with GS chassis a total of 947 chassis were built, used by 231/232/233 and the radio/command vehicle 263.
263 production ended in 1/43 with 127 built since 1939, there may be 64-100 more built from 1936.
of the 233 135 were built from 6/42 to 10/43.
of the 231/232 a total of 531 were built from 1939 to 9/43, some ~60-100 were built from 1936.
Data from Panzer Tracts 13-2

I wasn't taking it seriously at all. My point was that there seems to be so much contradictory info out there that it's difficult for the casual observer like myself to take any of these estimates without a grain of salt.

Hello to all ; something more.....................
Poland - Fall 1939! A le. Division in action.
Here the 8 wheeled armored vehicles in action within an armored/light Division in Poland 1939. Sd Kfz 231 schwere panzerspähwagen, Sd Kfz 232 Funkwagen y Sd Kfz 263 Funkwagen. AFAIK each armoured reconnaissance squadron consisted of a squadron headquarters containing one radio command vehicle and four armoured cars fitted with radio; one heavy troop of six eight/six-wheeled armoured cars; and two light troops, each of six four-wheeled cars. The heavy troop could be further sub-divided into three two-car sections, and the light troops into two three-car sections, provided each section contained at least one car fitted with radio. See below.....................

232's designation was not Funkwagen but schwerer Panzerspähwagen (Funk).
