Though an insignificant detail that changes nothing of importance there were more than 2 TII (h) in 3/503. At least 4 appear in photos and there is some evidence for a 5th.
The claim of only 2 relied on the memory of von Rosen.

Well, there was a long and detailed debate on this, was it in panzer-archiv?
IIRC you took part in it rather strongly.

The fact there are photos of 4 TII(h) from 3/503 removes the need for any 'debate'.
The spat you mention was caused by those those who believed that everything von Rosen said was 100% correct in every detail and he could not be challenged. They lost the argument!

Below the 2 'extra' Tiger II(h). These in addition to the 2 command TII '300' & '301'

Hi Michael,
Yes, of their 14 Tiger II that the 3rd Kp 503 was re-equipped with, the split is approx 9 Porsche and 5 Henschel turrets.

Hello Juha-Pekka,
All very interesting stuff, but I have no idea where you get the information about the Tiger II's of the re-equipped 1/sSS Pz Abt 101, your locations are way out when you say "were destroyed either in Falaise or Seine in front of Paris".

The only Tiger II lost "in front of Paris", were 5 Tiger II (P) of Pz Abt 316 (Fkl), where four (#10, #11, #12, and #13) were lost in and immediately around the city of Chateaudun, south west of Paris, and one (#02) about 35km to the east of Chareaudun, close to Toury, in the direction of Paris.

As for 1/sSS Pz Abt 101, all their activities after arriving NW of Paris (from Sennelager, Germany) on the 20th August were in the Mantes/Sailly/Limay area north of the Seine, where over a few days they lost several Tiger II, later withdrawing north to Mangy-en-Vixen on the 29th August, where they lost Tiger II #104 (now in the Bovington Tank Museum), next north again to Gisors (lost #111) , again north east to La Cappelle (lost #121 now in the Munsterlager Museum), and finally by early September were at Jemappes, in Belgium, where they lost #113.

Out of my bad memory - still worsened by flu...
Thanks for the corrections!

Dear MK,
Thanks for the photos. The top one looks like GIs touristing after the battle. The jackets could be Tanker Jackets or B-15 flying jackets; hard to tell in the photo.

Hello!
1st photo of Flak 18 shown on page 11 is from Jaworów area, september 1939 when Poles in night attack crushed SS ,,Germania'' Regiment, not from Falaise gap.

It appears to have been deliberately destroyed, and probably by the crew. Note that the barrel has been 'spiked.'

Hello!
After battle Polish soldiers received orders to destroy German equipment as they were unable to use it, also they captured literally too much equipment. Some equipment was destroyed by retreating Germans too.

Very interesting, thank you for adding that! It looks like the typical spiking of a barrel, but I'm used to seeing that done by the crew, not the capturing force.
Best,

I am looking for pictures of the Falize Gap in France. My father was there and I am hoping maybe I might see him in one. He was with the 29th SARS South Alberta Regiment. He drove a tank and was a Gunner.
