Sherman 75 vs. King Tigers

Post by Logan Hartke » 29 Apr 2002 00:42

I was reading "Death Traps" and it told about how a Sherman 75 knocked out two King Tigers before the remaining tanks destroyed it. Can who has not yet read the book anyone guess how? I'll give the answer later.

Could it be because the Sherman is much quicker and more agile then the much slower King Tiger??

Nope, in fact, the Sherman was stuck between two other vehicles. It was all about the ingenuity of the American TC.

Can you elaborate?

Not yet, that would give it away. What I will say is that the entire crew stayed in the Sherman and didn't open the hatches until it was knocked out, therefore, they had to knock out the two King Tigers with the weapons mounted on the tank.

Im taking a long shot here....Did the TC use the mounted machine gun to some how penetrate the KT armour, sending one of them crashing into the other??

It's probably something that we'll never have a hope in hell of guessing, and it's undoubtedly quite amusing I'd guess :)

You can guess it if you think outside of the box.

Hate These tests, luckily I read the book. By the way, this isn't the only time I've read of such an incident. Personally, I think there was a great element of luck. But I don't want to give away the answer. Cheers, D

The Sherman moved out the way of a "cross-fire" and the Tigers shot each other.

Just a guess,

Nice Try Al, but it was accomplished by an on-board weapon of the Sherman. Cheers, D :D

What the hell is going on here? Can’t you just make a decent posting (they are supposed to be ‘articles’ – writings from which one might learn something) about the subject instead of running around like fifteen year old girls gibbering through a knocking shop in Marrakech?

I’d like to see some German confirmation on the sudden loss of two Königstiger by the way, these Yankee reports have never been to my liking, nor did they contain a high objective nature for that matter.

If we are to believe the U.S.A.F., the whole German Army was destroyed from the air.

Chief Whip,

Stop making insulting posts!

If you don't have anything to say in a friendly manner, don't say anything at all!
