Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
The 251/3 with curved roof is from 1st SS LAH, probably taken in Feb 45 in Hungary during the Gran offensive. They had more than one, as they left an identical 251 at La Gleize.
.
There are articles about it on Barry Crooks excellent Archive1944-45 .

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Bam, the vehicle is an experimental Ardelt 8,8cm Pak43/3 Waffenträger, used in Brandenburg in April 1945. I don't know who the lady is

Re: Axis Armored Vehicles Quiz
Spot on Alan, you got that quick.
Like you probably, my main information about the Ardelt Waffentrager comes from Panzer tracts 7-3. It says one was successfully demonstrated at kummersdorf in May 44. 100 were then ordered, but continual delays meant that by February 45, only 7 were built, and they were used in fighting around the Ardelt factory in Eberswalde, just north of Berlin, where there are a few photos of them.
Which is why this new image is so interesting. It comes from the new Peko book Bloody Vienna, by Nevenkin, and claims that it is a photo of a waffentrager in Vienna in April 45. Unfortunately Nevenkins other Peko books are full of inaccuracies.
Simultaneously, the new book Brandenburg Escape from the Halbe Pocket, has a nice photo and and new info. It's photo of a waffentrager in the halbe forest, has this caption:"only a few experimental examples of this vehicle existed. Until July 1944, 10 examples were built, followed by a few more in march 1945."
Unfortunately the new Brandenburg Halbe has many errors and vehicle miss identifications in it, and is not up to the usual Axel Urbanke hi standard, so I'm not sure what to make of these 2 new information sources.
