Ferdinand or Elephant?
Ferdinand or Elephant?
Hi everyone.
I wanted to share with you a debate that me and a few of my friends had a while back and that was concerning the Elephant tank destroyer.
Now am I right in saying that when they were first used at Kursk, they were called Ferdinand and later after they withdrew the remainder and up-graded them by adding a machine gun and a cupola, they re-named them Elephants?
Has anyone heard this story before?
Regards
Yan.

Re: Ferdinand or Elephant?
The two articles are wrong. The re-naming of the Ferdinand to Elefant was not related to the modifications.

Yes, Christian is correct. The crews lobbyed for the name change and Hitler approved the name change. More to do with the fact it was heavy, slow and cumbersome and almost impossible to pull off the battlefield with the use of a single recovery vehicle.Christian Ankerstjerne wrote: ↑05 Jun 2017, 18:11The two articles are wrong. Whever we went, whatever we did, we quoted the songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgUhjWJVVCQ&t=199s
