Hi there,
I have recently come across some rail transport documents, which detail the different classes of wheeled vehicle:
I: up to 17.5 t, from 7,21 to 11,14 m in length
Ia: up to 15.0 t, from 6.01 to 7.20 m in length
Ib: up to 15.0 t, from 5.01 to 6.00 m in length
II: up to 15.0 t, from 3.54 to 5.00 m in length
III: up to 15.0 t, from 2.51 to 3.53 m in length
IV: up to 15.0 t, up to 2.50 m in length
Does anyone know what sort of vehicles would normally be placed in these categories?
For example, would an Opel Blitz 3.5 t truck normally be classed as a "type I"?
Thanks for any help with this.
Cheers
Steve
Train Transports - Vehicle categories?

Hi Steve,
here a link to the site "Kraftfahrzeuge der Wehrmacht" by Holger Erdmann with some informations to the loading classes:

Re: Train Transports - Vehicle categories?
Hi Bert,
Thanks for that, I should have checked there first!
I have found another part of the document which gives this sort of breakdown:
I: Kommandowagen, Instandsetzung-Wagen (presumably heavier trucks or buses)
Ia: mittlere Lkw
Ib: mittlere Pkw
II: leichte Pkw
Curiously the weight classes I posted above are given on the document (printed on the document) which does not match up with the one on Holger's site, but it makes sense that the weights would also vary...
Thanks
Steve
