Pz B in sd.kfz.251/7 and 251/10

#1

Hello, when I see encyclopedia of German tanks, it says both sd.kfz.251/7 and 251/10 had one Pz B antitank rifles with 40 rounds. But this weapon was very ineffective against tanks, did those vehicles really had this weapon or just specification on paper ? Thank

Hi Kelvin,

in the normal production there was only the Sd.Kfz. 250/11 equipped with a s. Pz.B. 41. The Sd.Kfz. 251/10 had the 3,7cm AT gun, the Sd.Kfz. 251/7 only a machine gun. But there were field modifications. So all variations are possible.
Here pics of these three vehicles. Interesting the last pic: a Sd.Kfz. 251/7 pulling a 2,8cm PzB 41
Source of the pics:
Sd.Kfz. 250/11: "Sd Kfz 250" by Janusz Ledwoch;
Sd.Kfz. 251/10: Waffen-Aresenal Special 32: "Der mittlere Schützenpanzerwagen (Sd. Kfz. 251)" by Walter Seifert;
Sd.Kfz. 251/7: "Sd Kfz 251" by Janusz Ledwoch.

Regards

Bert

Panzerbuchse 39 ATR were phased out of service in early period of war and German had turned out 39,000 on hand and quite enough to equip all sd.kfz.251/7 and 251/10. And German began to use PzB 39 to fire grenades against light armour.

This is a very old book, with a lot of outdated information. For a low-end, all-round book, David Doyle's Standard Catalog of German Military Vehicles is much better. In the higher end, look into getting Jentz' Panzer Truppen vol. 1 and 2.

Hi, Christian, thank for your information. I check many books and web, all say sd.kfz.251/7 with only 2 x MG. Perhaps is correct one.

Hi Kelvin,

finally I could find a pic of a Sd.Kfz. 251 with a 2,8cm PzB 41 (source of the pic: "SdKfz 251" by Janusz Ledwoch) and a field improvisation with a captured Russian anti tank rifle Degtyarev 41 (ПТРД). (source of the pic: Waffenarsenal Band 60 "Panzerjäger 2. Band" by Horst Scheibert).

Hi,

The SdKfz 251-7 was equipped with the Panzerbüchse 38/39, which was fairly obsolete by the time the 251/7's were in production.

Here is a photo of the interior of the 251/7, you can see the anti-tank rifle folded up and placed on the wall between the seat and the Rifle stowage bin/back rest.

Cheers
Steve

In this topic there sees to be confusion between the 2.8cm s. Pz.B. 41 anti tank gun, and the Panzerbüchse 38/39 anti tank rifle.

Yes, I should write clearly : Panzerbuchze 39 7.92 mm AT rifles. BTW, any German guideline for how many mines or 3kg explosvie charges were carried out in each sd.kfz.251/7 ?

I see some German engineer one carried 20 x Type 24 Stielgranate and one 3 kg explosive charge and one carried 8 x Stielgranate and 2 x 3 kg explosive and sccissor for cutting wires.
