Hi, just wondering what paint was used for the turret numbers as they seem to "wash" off over time. Was it water based so the numbers could be changed easily? And also why paint over the Balkenkreuz with the turret number?
Here we see 222 of Stavelot fame with turret number and the Balkenkreuz faintly seen underneath
Same Tiger II abandoned
and finally a while later with no sign of the numbers but the Balkenkreuz is clearly visible
Thanks Antony

It is the same tank in all three shots. But, in the bottom one all the spare track on the turret is missing, as are all the fenders. Maybe the numbers were put on with whitewash or some other form of temporary paint?
