Vickers developed a 6 ton tank for export. 38 were bought by Poland.
Polish designation: VAU33-dw
16 x Vickers MkVIE Type A. Twin turret. MG armed
Polish designation: VAU33-jw
22 x Vickers MkVIE Type B. Single turret. 47mm/3pdr low velocity gun, coaxial MG.
Does anyone know ...
The British designation for the 47mm/3pdr gun?
A sample was sent for evaluation to Finland but was rejected. Did it turn up anywhere else?
If the Vickers tanks were taken into German service after 1939? I can find no trace in any beute list I have seen.
Polish Vickers 6 ton tanks.
Re: Polish Vickers 6 ton tanks.
British just called it
3 pdr 2 cwt
as far as I know.

Re: Polish Vickers 6 ton tanks.
That one was made in 32 and 40 calibres.
Here it is:

The one I have in mind seems to be something quite different. Here it is currently sitting in a Finnish museum:

Given the resemblance, might it not be French derived?
BTW I have now found a Polish website that denounces the VAU designation as a post-war invention. Apparently it was just known as "Vickers 6-tonowy". Given that the Poles were very literal in their designations, I am inclined to believe this.
Re: Polish Vickers 6 ton tanks.
That 47mm is pretty weak. All other 47mm from different countries have muzzle velocities over 2000 f.p.s.

Re: Polish Vickers 6 ton tanks.
The RN did possess during WW1 some 80 examples of a 2.5 pounder (47mm) Hotchkiss gun, which had a short barrel. That's the only one I know which might qualify. See: http://quarryhs.co.uk/47mmUK.pdf for details inc photos of the ammunition.
