Hi Ivan, hi Kerry,

excuse me, please, for my mistake: I was relying on the ID by Horst Hinrichsen, for me the expert in motorcycles, in spite of some doubts. Here another pic from Hinrichsen for comparing, showing a DKW type NZ 500 on the left and a DKW type NZ 350 on the right with the remark on the different bend of the exhaust pipes.

Best regards

Bert

ID a motorcycle (April 1941)

#18

Post by Ivan Ž. » 15 Feb 2018, 13:06

Dear everyone,

I've seen this motorcycle (mis)identified on the internet as a NSU, but I'm quite sure it's a DKW. But which version is it, please?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Ivan,

You are totally right, that this motorcycle cannot be a NSU. It is indeed a DKW. I think it is the type NZ 350 because of the bigger engine block.

Best regards

Bert

Dear and always helpful Bert, thanks very much for the reply. NZ 350 would be my choice too. :)

Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

the motorcycle on Your first pic could be a NSU OSL 351. Here a pic of this motorcycle (source: http://zabytkowemotocykleirowery.pl/nsu_osl_501/pl). And the motorcycle on Your second pic could be a Puch S 4. Also a pic (source: http://www.fahrzeugbilder.de/name/galer ... ie/24.html).

Best regards

Bert

Hi Ivan,

that could be two Victoria type KR 35 WH. Here a pic of such a motorcycle, which is standing in the museum of industrial culture (Museum Industriekultur) in Nuremberg (source: http://www.meisterdinger.de/victoria/151_5189.jpg).
For me interesting the small unit marking of the 11th Panzerdivision (the so-called ghost-brigade) on the tank of the left motorcycle.

Best regards

Bert

Excellent, Bert, another spot on identification!

Yes, apparently they really liked their mascot (they also had a different, official unit insignia) and painted it wherever they could (even on trailers).

Cheers & thanks one more time!
Ivan
