If you say so. However it (and the 3 other Tigers on the same train) shows obvious signs of fire. Seems to me the coupla lid is missing.
Anway I thought you were going to put me on ignore........ for the 6th time?

Off you go.

Looks like you are struggling here. Google is not always your friend. Let me dip into my unrivalled collection of pretty pictures and find a better example.....
Here you go. A knocked-out tank that burned, has white patches and was then painted white to stop people bumping into it on dark nights.

You have a picture book inside the movie inside your head? Is the movie inside your head like 'The Wizard of Oz'...and it will change from black and white to three strip technicolor?

Something like that. For years I had been trying to find the Unit and identity of this demolished Pz IV shown briefly in an IWM Normandy film.

Recently I was going through very old files on my computer and a Pz IV wreck caught me eye. A quick comparison confirmed my hunch and I now know the Unit, the tank number and where it was knocked out.

If you have any ideas on this other Pz IV wreck I would be eternally grateful.

Just another 200 unidentified wrecks to go!

Hi Michael,
But we know Schneider used the War Diary of 2nd kp SS 102 for the bulk of his info in the chapter in TIC II. Perhaps he should have paid more attention to the entry for August 3rd :

Uscha Rosowski (223) is knocked out and receives 7 hits from close range. Company (sends back ?) Tiger 223 along with Tiger 234 and takes up securing position on high ground 2 kilometres (from) la Biestierre to keep the road open.
Do you have the German language version of the entry for 3 August 1944? It would be interesting to see what term the war diary uses for the effect that those 7 hits had on Tiger '223'.

Regards

Tom

Michael,

Thanks. So can we take it that in German military documents "abgeschoßen" = "knocked out"?

Regards

Tom

abgeschoßen?, ive seen that referred to in aircraft shoot down, so i would guess yes.

Hence the large number of translations that say things like 'crack ace Heinz von Beanz shot down 57 varieties of English Panzers....................'

It is 4 Tigers and I Pz IV on a train being sent back for rebuild. Its a well covered incident and many photos were taken. Rear views can be deceptive.

It looks ok above but a side view of that Tiger shows the true extent of the damage and evidence of burning.
Tiger-Train b.jpg
Its at Braine and I am sure Google can help you out.

Date is August 29th and the US Unit was The 486th AAA Battalion
