Post by max_salzberg » 16 Aug 2019 18:23

Hi guys, are there any photos or documents that confirm the existence of Ostwind II?

I am familiar with a Flakpanzer IV Kugelblitz 3cm Doppelflak, which was meant to be the next generation of Flakpanzers, but it never reached series production. Unsure if this is the vehicle you are inquiring about.

From Tanks of World War II by Chris Ellis:

"Flakpanzer IV Kugelblitz was a sophisticated AA tank with "ball" type turret inside an armoured shield. It used the same 30mm automatic cannon with belt feed as had been developed for U-boats (3cm FlaK 103/38). It is believed that only two, and certainly no more than five, vehicles were built. The war ended before production could begin."

I have a color illustration from the same book which I can post. No photos, though.

This thread probably belongs in the Ron Klages Panzer/vehicle section.

Thank you Max and kfbr!!

I just learned something new. That's a new vehicle to me.

Now I also wish there was a photo or illustration.

Hi,

here an illustration of the "Kugelblitz" prototype (source: "Kraftfahrzeuge und Panzer der Reichswehr, Wehrmacht und Bundeswehr ab 1900" by Werner Oswald).

^^ Cool picture. ^^ Would the crew requirements have been the same as a tank?

in regards of an Ostwind II with the twin side by sider 3,7cm flak
I've never seen a real picture or drawing in any book of y books (Motorbuch Panzer IV & Motorbuch Special Vehicles of the Wehrmacht and some others)
there were some nice model pictures with either side by side or above each other like the 3,7cm Flak 43 Zwilling
but not the real thing yet

I think you're playing WarThunder and are searching for more detailed infos, correct?

There is mention of the post-war finding Pz.Kpfw.IV with a double 3.7 cm cannon in Czechoslovakia. More information is not available.
