DAK Panzerjägers types

#1

Post by yantaylor » 15 Jun 2020, 16:49

Hello everyone.

When Rommel’s forces landed in North Africa, their main tank destroyer was the Panzerjäger I Ausf B. This was augmented later in the campaign by the various types of Marders. Does anyone have a break down on which Marders actually arrived, as there were quite a few types with I, II & III plus Ausf H & M.

I guess that some of these may have arrived during the Tunisian phase of this campaign, so as anyone got a list showing which types arrived first and which followed, plus totals please would be great.

Thank you
Ian

The Marder sent to Rommel before Tunisia were SdKfz 139 Marder III with the Soviet 76.2mm gun. No other Marders were sent until the reinforcements arrived in Tunisia. To find out which types arrived in Tunisia you'd have to look through the issue lists for the Divisions which were in Tunisia. I know there were some SdKfz 131 Marder II.

Thanks Alan, I suppose they got their first Marders around the same time they got their Special IIIs and IVs.

Ian, I believe that the first ones arrived in July 1942.
