Yes they did wear Wehrmacht cam smocks but since they didn't use 251's you really are going off track with them.

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
Hi Alan, just been discussing the 10. Pz with Leo, so it looks like I may have to place my vehicles into a mix of divisions because I can't find one division which has all of the ones I have, which also will be expensive to buy decals.

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
But the 10. PD was destroyed in May 1943 and never reformed so no use for all the things you've been talking about on this thread.

Ian, sorry my mind wandered, I should have known we talking the ss divisions. That said 10th didn't have any Panthers in Normandy if that concerns you.

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
I may only keep my efforts to compiling a armoured company along with any regimental support assets like 15cm IGs and battalion support like 7.5cm Pak 40s and 12cm Mortars.
It would be nice if I could add say a Grille or two plus a Pz 38(t) Flak tank, but there you go, but I will be hoping for a platoon of StuG IIIs for armour support.
I am starting to get my head around any recce units, and working on them now.

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
Ian, this is just getting boring, I keep having to tell you that the unit you have chosen didn't have the equipment you want to model. Once again this is the case with the 10th SS, they didn't have any Grille and they were ordered to hand they Flakpanzer 38 over to Das Reich, something which probably happened even before the vehicle arrived with 10th.
I thought that I'd given you a link to Martin Block's distribution lists on another thread but if not then here it is. The best thing for you to do is to chose a vehicle, click on it and see which divisions were issued with it and then make your choice of unit.

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
Alan, my last post was not concered just with the 10. SS, but all SS Pz units, maybe even Wehrmacht if I they suit what I need.
Thank you for the link, I have tried to convert it to English but no luck!

I must admit that the 2nd and 116th Pz Divs, look promising, but there is a lot of work to do yet.

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
@spannermann,
While researching a similar project of my own, I came across this thread and saw your very impressive array of command halftracks. I wonder if you could tell me what you used for the internal fit-out ie the radio sets. I have only identified a couple of possible donor kits and not entirely happy with what I have found so far.
I would have pm'ed about this but apparently not allowed as I only just registered.
TIA for any help...

Hi,
All internals and the star antenna are home made, no aftermarket items used.
cheers PAUL

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
Hi Paul, that is impressive. I am aiming to do some 251/3s and for internals was looking at using radio sets from either Esci(/Italeri) 250/3 or FtF 251/6. However the Esci kit is proving difficult to find except on eBay (where they generate quite a bit of interest), while I have some reservations about the First to Fight representation which looks more like a cabinet than a rack. I've looked at a few after market metal castings and not really thrilled by those either. All internals and the star antenna are home made, no aftermarket items used.
I wouldn't mind having a crack at scratch building some myself. Would be a great help to know/see more about yours if possible....
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
Hi Dave,
Got little to show, as I have said previously in this thread, these models are what I call "representational models, and in no way highly detailed etc., etc., they are only small at 1/72 anyway. My interest in building up a representation of a units vehicle content, not individual detailing, and that makes a big difference to what you do per model.
Your best bet is to look at photos of these radio arrangements in such books ar Panzer Tracts, Panzer Wrecks etc.,

Re: Sd.Kfz 17
Hi Paul,
I think we have a similar mindset. My German HT variants are mostly based on PSC fast build 251s with the planned 251/3s as Coy HQ vehicles. I'm not aiming for display standard, just something that looks pretty right from wargames table viewing height - but less toy-like than eg the radio kit in the First to Fight model, if that makes sense. Anyway, if I figure out the insides I am sure my antennae aren't going to be anywhere near as good as yours.
Cheers,
Dave
