Hi Christian,
Had a look at your tactical numbers article, many thanks, the section showing 4 digit tactical numbers in a Pz Gren unit, were the units meant to copy those numbers exactly or are they just an example of what is advised and any group of 4 digits is ok ?.
Seen several 4 digit number sequences on 251's, but none match those listed in your article, so are they just an indication of what should be done.
For example have two 251's from the a Wiking division Pz G Rgt that are 2531 and 2533, another 251, from a different unit is 9921.
cheers PAUL

Re: 4 digit tactical numbers
In the order, the first two digits of the vehicle number of regimental and battalion staff companies could be any number above 20. For other companies, the first one or two digits was the company number.
Do note that this is just one order and local patterns may have been used, so it can't be taken to mean that any number above 20 automatically makes the vehicle a staff vehicle.

Re: 4 digit tactical numbers
Hi,
Thanks, so its all very confusing, but then again was that not the intention, confusion disguises the true function of a vehicle. And the knowledge of what the numbers really meant only mattered to the units using those numbers, if others were confused, so what, it did not matter, it would have only been a small group of units and their soldiers who needed too know the true meaning of those number groups.
And of course the system of numbering was not concerned with us, 77 years later, trying to figure out the meanings.
cheers PAUL
