Frundsberg StuGs in Arnhem
Frundsberg StuGs in Arnhem
Hello all,
Happy 2022!
I’m doing research on Frundsberg Stugs in Arnhem during Market Garden.
According to some sources (Zaloga/Osprey; Zwarts/Concord) the unit had four StuGs in the city during that operation.
I also know that the StuGs of Frundsberg had no zimmerit - in general, production models between March and June 1943.
Would you have additional information about these StuGs?
The only reference I have on this subject is a photo of a StuG (May 1943 production) in Maaseik, Belgium, on September 6, 1944, a week before the start of Operation Market Garden.
I hope to hear a little about it. I thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Greetings,
Fabrício Menardi

Hi Fabrício,
here another pic of a StG III, but I´m not sure, if it was taken in Arnhem, but with captured British soldiers. (source: squadron/signal publications Band 39: "Sturmgeschütz III" by Bruce Culver and Don Greer.

Re: Frundsberg StuGs in Arnhem
Hi,
The above StuG's seen in Arnhem are from the StuG Brigade 280.
The one seen in Maaseik, which seems to have a Waffen SS crew but is not necessarily 10th SS, still would have about 120 Km to travel before reaching Arnhem, and in the condition as seen in the photo would be in no condition to take part in the fighting in Arnhem.
Another StuG photographed at Brummen near Arnhem which is 10SS is in a similar condition but without tracks and is being towed away from the Arnhem area.
cheers.

Hello, guys!
I appreciate your posting. I did a lot of research on the StuGs from 280.
And I also know the two vehicle photos from the II SS Panzer Corps in or around Arnhem.
I wondering if there are documentary proof about the use of StuGs produced between mid-1943 (i.e., without zimmerit) by Frundsberg (or Hohenstaufen).
Well, it seems to me that as much as I’ve searched and read, that issue is not resolved, or rather, it is. There is no concrete evidence so far about these surviving WSS StuGs in Arnhem or Nijmegen.
Cheers,
Fabrício
