Panhard recce cars in Leibstandarte service...

#1

Post by Timo » 12 May 2002, 23:34

Just wondering, as I received conflicting info on this matter in the past. Does anybody know if the French Panhard recce car saw action as a Beutepanzer in Leibstandarte service?

Thanks in advance,
Timo

I've seen photos of Panhards in use by Totenkopf in 1940, but do you mean after this date for the LAH?

Hi Timo

Just thought you may be interested in the following photo. This was taken from 'Encyclopdeia of German Tanks of World War Two', by Peter Chamberlain and Hilary L. Doyle.

The original Panhard P 178 in service with the Waffen SS. I am unable to say whether this photo was taken in France or in Russia.

I'm 90% sure this was taken in France during 1940 rather than in Russia. I've seen it before in other publications. I think it was one of several views taken of the same vehicle.

There's conflicting info on the Panhard in AA LAH. They don't show up in their Gliederungen for March 1943. One of my sources states the Panhard in the above photo belonged to StuG Abt. LAH
