Were these Tigers disabled by air attacks or is it from a direct engagement with other tanks?

Fred Wittmann's Tiger was moved from its position and recovered. Look on page 68 of Tigres Au Combat and you will see this photo of the shop behind the Tiger. It is a very poor quality picture but as this shop was completely demolished on the night of 30th July the photo must have been taken before then and note the Tiger is no longer there. It was recovered.
The men you say are siphoning petrol from the Sherman are in fact Paratroopers or Luftwaffe personel and are just looking over the Sherman. Taylor in his book on Villers mixed up 2 seperate sets of photos showing this Firefly. In one set there are German Tankers climbing all over the Firefly but this set of the Luftwaffe men was taken later.

Hi Michael

Yes...sorry... paratroopers looking over the Firefly, not Tiger crew but the german officer seems to be twin, same attitude...

Find here famous pictures of destroyed british column..and Villers Bocage after 30th 06 1944 bombing...

Post by Bayerlein spirit » 17 Jul 2003, 14:21

Hi Michael

What about Wittmann tragedy...

4 tigers destroyed in Cintheaux ( Destroyed on August 8 in death of Michael Wittmann Famous history )

With great source : http://www.angelfire.com/al4/mldgbox/index-bw.html , nice work really

Find here my suggestion :

1...Wreck of 007 with situation map

2...Map with aerial view ( I rotate 180° the 4 RAF reconnaissance photo taken August 9 of the battlefield near Gaumesnil + for example : one aerial view of Russian front tiger.... I think it's really these four Tigers

3...View of 314 destroyed

Fred

These carrier photos are often said to be those from Villers Bocage but they are not.

Note that in this photo you can see the number '67' on the rear. This is the marking of an Infantry Division and thus it can not be from 7th Armoured Division. It seems it is a Mortar section. They are not from the action at Villers.

This Tiger has the Feifel Air Filters fitted and thus it is not the type used in Normandy

OK got it now. You just posted it as an example and did not say it was in Normandy.
