Ace tanker of german .

#1

Post by matrf » 03 Feb 2004, 03:29

I found a good question on a french board , i guest ill find a correct awnser here .

"Une chose me surprend. Les as de l’arme blindée allemande ont pour la plupart « travaillé » sur char Tigre et non sur Panther alors que ce dernier à de meilleures caractéristiques à tous points de vue. Pourquoi ? Question de doctrine d’emploi du matériel ? Ou bien les meilleurs chefs de chars étaient-ils d’office affectés aux bataillons de chars lourds ?

Otto Carius, Michael Wittmann et Will Fey étaient sur char Tigre.
"

translation :

A thing suprise me . Why the ace of the tank german army was for most affected to tiger tank? When we all know the panther was BY FAR BETTER , so why the ace of german army was using tiger tank?

Otto Carius, Michael Wittmann et Will Fey was in tiger.

That is awefully speculative, saying that the Panther was BY FAR superior. Tigers perhaps produced more aces because they could kill the enemy before they themselves could be engaged, and because even if they were hit first the armour was too thick to be pierced.

Cheers,
Conacher

I like Tiger better,Tiger produce a lot of aces,i think it is because its shooting range and the thick armor, even they are hit, they can still hit back as they can destroy most Allied tanks in a long distance,so most of the aces were from Tiger :D

I would lay my bet to the Tiger2.

And Barkmann used Panther.

Ahhh my gawd! Panther is the better tank! The Panther G model was by far the best tank during the whole war! Tiger was good at great range and armour, but it's limited operation range (100km) and it's slow speed (34km/h) made it relatively bad compared to the Panther. Still I like them both! (Explaines name and avatar) Fire range, penetration, and armour; Tiger. Speed, range, AT and average tank abilities; Panther.

The Panther was better than the Tiger, yes, but not the Tiger II...

I wouldn't say better... They were two completely diffrent tanks. Medium and heavy... They had their own areas of proffesion. But as a tank I still belive that the Panther was supreme... Even over the Tiger II

Kissa, you should look at the Christians site and there about tiger II

http://www.panzerworld.net/tigeriicomp.html
http://www.panzerworld.net/tigerii.html
At the beginnign of its career, the Tiger II, like the Panther, had a number of automotive problems. These problems were severe, and cause numorous engine fires and breakdowns. After being worked out, the Tiger II did prove to be an exellent machine.
