Info about the DAF M39 ???

#1

Post by Sbf.Koch » 02 Sep 2004, 20:03

I'd like to have some more info about the Dutch-made DAF M39. I heard it was very advanced for it's time (just like the Fokker G-1)
I'm interested because it was made in my country, and I heard something about only 1 ever fought the germans and the rest went into german Police-service??? Is this right?
Tech specs are also very welcome!

Hello everybody,
Nice picture indeed, but the 2 M38 on the left are not DAF made vehicles, but swedish L161 Landsverk named M38 Pantserwagen in the Dutch Army
Friendly from Belgium

According to Beute panzer unterm balkenkreuz by Dopfler-zeitgeschichte,the Dutch M38 where landsverk L180 and only 14 of them where orderd.

Sorry but that is not a M39....(M39 had a slopped Front....and a slopped rear!)...it's probably a M36 or 38

Nice pictures MaisAlto

The M39 (DAF WH) picture that you posted ,did you found it also on E-bay,if so it's a realy nice find.

Here are some M36 picture, the dutch army had 12 of these vehicles (Both picture are from expired E-bay sales).

The first picture shows a Dutch M36 with a large police emblem somewhere in Russia.
The second one, captured M36 in 1940 they have no markings on them yet.

I just want to add that the Danish Army also bought two Landsverk 180 vehicles for trials in the mid-1930ies. They disappeared when the Army was dissolved by the Germans in 1943. I guess the most likely destination would have been to the units already using the Dutch vehicles if they had any left by 1943...?

Any way to make a Dutch and a Danish L180 apart?

http://www.armyvehicles.dk/lv180.htm

AFAIK Ireland and Norway also used this vehicle - any other users?
