Tigers and Elefants

#1

Post by Durand » 08 Sep 2002, 13:04

Hallo,

In the book titled "Feuer: An Artilleryman's Life on the Eastern Front" by Werner Adamczyk it is stated that fewer than 1500 Tiger Is and 500 Tiger IIs were produced during the war. It is also stated that there were approximately 50 Elefants deployed during Operation Citadel. Are these figures accurate?

Thank You

J.D.

90 Elefants
1355 Tiger Is
489 King Tigers

Hello!

As far as I know 89 Ferdinands/Elefants were at Kursk with s.Heeres-Panzerjäger-Abt.653 (45 vehicles) and 654 (44 vehicles).
One for testing stayed behind.

What Christoph say is true.
Also, there were produced 492 Tiger IIs, because of the 3 prototypes.

The Tiger I number is 1.344

Hallo,

Thank you to all for the responses. I know that units transferred between the West and East Fronts, but is it possible to tally how many Tiger Is and Tiger IIs saw action on each of the fronts? Who was more likely to run into these AFVs, the Soviets or the Western Allies?

Thank You

J.D.

In general, there were more Tiger IIs on the eastern than the western front, and I think the same goes for the Tigers (it would make sense, as the most of the fighting happened here)

You can find an overview of the Tiger IIs that went to the individual units here: http://www.panzerworld.net/TigerII.htm
