Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello ilfil,
Aha! Thank you very much for this extensive explanation and photos. It all becomes clear to me now. I've learned a lot about Blitzez from this.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Max,
Glad I was of use.
Have here another trick to recognize these, when the area in concern is visible, of course.
The 1,5-tonner bonnet side is the whole height on the front, on 3-tonners it is approximately the half:
This is because on 1,5-tonners the bonnet side was hinged to the bonnet half and both are folded together when opened, i.e. the classic scheme used by most manufacturers back then.
On the other hand, on 3-tonners the bonnet side and half is integral piece, a "one hit" stamping, and when opened looks a bit unusual.
Bonus:
On 4x4 the bonnet side lower edge is dead straight:
Cheers!

Hello ilfil,
Thanks for taking the time to share some more valuable tips on Opel Blitz Identification. These will now remain in my mind much like your tip years ago on telling the difference between a '39 and '40 Chevy truck. Thanks again.

Thank you George
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Sturm 78,
a very interesting pic. Thanks a lot for posting. I think it is not the type M 1 5-tonner, but the little bit smaller L 1 4-tonner. A very rare vehicle. Here a pic of such a vehicle out of the book "Typenkompass MAN" by Wolfgang Westerwelle.
Best regards
Bert

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Sturm 78, hi carius, hi Bert,
You are right, it is a Saurer, but originated from French production. This is identifiable by the rounded ventilation louvres arrangement like on the pic from Holger´s homepage (www.kfzderwehrmacht.de). I cannot say which type it is, because I don´t know which types the French "Automobiles Industrieles Saurer" produced depending of the used engine: 1 CRDv with 70 hp, 1 vCRD with 60 hp or 1 vCRDv also with 70 hp.
Best regards
Bert
