Hello,

Could someone please identify this sports car for me. It has what I think is "Aero" on the grille.

Best regards,
Larrister

Morning Larrister:

Your vehicle is a Skoda Aero of the late 1930's. Probably 1938-1939.
Pretty rare vehicle and a nice photo, Thanks for that.

Unknown Krad/Bike

Hello everybody,

the unknown bike is 100 % a NSU. Please have a look at the pics on this site and compare. Watch the steering/wheel area, the frame which holds the front tire is very unique for NSU.

Sorry, but my technical english is a bit poor, hope you don`t mind.

Greetings

Evening Larrister:

Always glad to try to help out. This is one of the more enjoyable parts of the hobby as far as I am concerned. Your photos are always a challenge and I hope you keep posting them here and on the other forums we "belong" to.

I am not sure if this link will work, but try http://www.karosa.cz for more interesting photos of Czech vehicles, not military, but for sure probably impressed or confiscated after the war started.

Sorry, you have to get to the history section on their website, just play with it, it is worth it.

Hello Bill,

Found the section of photos of old vehicles and have added it to my "Favorites". I too enjoy collecting and trying to identify photos of old vehicles. I am rather new to this part of the hobby as I used to collect in other areas of militaria. I am slowly building up a small library of reference books on the subject. I appreciate the help of people such as yourself who give me a helping hand when I can't identify a vehicle.

Best regards,
Larrister

Hello Bill,

I completely forgot about this phoho which I recently won on Ebay. Same car (Skoda Aero) and definitely impressed into service with the Wehrmacht.

Best regards,
Larrister

Larrister:

Great photo!!

This most likely would have been one of the vehicles taken into service by the Czech Army and then taken over by the German Forces. From what I can understand, there was a limited number of such vehicles purchased by the Czech Army and then later there were a small number impressed that were from the civilian economy. This photo you posted is the best I have ever seen of one purchased by the Czech armed forces. Thanks.

Hello

I cannot identify this strange truck in service with a Heer unit in south Ukraina - probably 1941. Can you help me?
Thanks!

Evening Marco:

While the photo is pretty hard to see well, I think I can identify your truck as a Fiat/Spa Dovunque 41 6 ton 6X6

I am not a student of the Italian participation in the invasion of Russia but since you are from Italy, I would assume the photo might have come from an Italian soldier who served there.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hello Bill

Thank you for your answer.
I know, the picture is not very sharp, but the original photo was very small and I had to magnify it a lot. It comes from a german fotoalbum and was taken by a Heer soldier who served under 34th Artillery Observation Battalion, attached to XI Corp - 11th. Army.
So, even if the truck looks similar to Fiat/SPA Ovunque 41, I think doesn't match because:
- I'm quite sure the photo was taken in summer 1941, at the beginning of Barbarossa;
- Fiat / SPA Dovunque 41 was produced after 1943;
- Fiat / SPA Dovunque 41 looks different in several details, as you can see in the picture.

Other ideas?

Cheers

Marco

From what I can see, it is a British made truck. I think it' either a Bedford from the QL-series, a AEC truck or a Leyland of some kind.

Morning Marco:

Sorry, you are correct I did misidentify your truck. I do not think the photo I am attaching will come out well as the original was very small but any I will try. In Bart Vanderveen's book "The Observers Military Vehicle Directory to 1940 appears this photo of a Czech Skoda 6SD which is very similar to your vehicle.
Cheers
