Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi, Raul.
Not sure at all but it seems to be a Steyr type 640 IMHO
Kindly regards
Prosper

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Raul and Prosper,
I agree that it is Austrian, but I think Austro-Daimler ADGR, very similar trucks.
Cheers,
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Kerry,
I was unsure whether it was an ADG or ADGR without seeing the rear weels. How did you make that determination? Front tire size?
Cheers,
Max

Hi, Max.
Sorry to interfere. But if you enlarge the photo, you can see the shape of the rear rims. Judging by it, the rear wheels are double, which means this is an Austro-Daimler ADGR model.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Max,
My thoughts were far simpler. The curious finned cone on top of the radiator is not present on the ADG, only the ADGR, in the photos which I have seen. In a some of the, admittedly limited, available photos of the ADG the headlights are mounted close to the radiator, not on a mounting bar above the wings as in the ADGR. Also some ADG photos are lacking the rollers, but as these details, perhaps denoting early production vehicles, are not seen in all cases I did not view them as diagnostic in this case.
The presence of the twin rear wheels is, of course, confirmation, thank you Andrij.
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Kerry,
Keen observations except that I have a couple of photos which appear to show that headlamp mounting bar arrangement on an ADG. Thanks very much for the tip on the radiator finial which seems consistent with my pics of these types. Great ID!

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Max,
Thank you. I agree that some, but not all, of the ADG photos do have the mounting bar. As I said, perhaps early development vehicles. There were, it seems, less than 200 built but variation was possible, especially given that the ADG was, in effect, a development vehicle for the ADGR. I think that possibly the headlight mounting was changed when the radiator brush guard was added. The close-in mount would have been partially obscured, plus the bar provided the upper mount for the guard grille.
From the photos the ADGR does look like a very capable truck!
Here are a few crops of the various set-ups.
Cheers,
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Kerry,
Thanks for the pics. I agree with your analysis. My point is that the headlamps are not a foolproof ID point to exclude the ADG in this case.

Hi Alexander,
I would say it is the type 170 V, cabriolet B, built from 1936 to 1942 (source of the pic: "Deutsche Autos 1920 - 1945" by Werner Oswald).

Bert
