Regarding the rear view of the armoured car, I am no expert when it comes to armour. Therefore, I cannot ID the vehicle for sure. But....some thoughts.

The tyre size and tread style are more likely to be a vehicle like the Krupp mentioned earlier. The Laffly had rather wider cross section tyres in the photos I have seen.
To my eyes, the wheels and tyres are inclined inwards which indicates an independent type rear suspension and again, that would seem to rule out the Laffly and again put the Krupp into play.

Next.........

Have to say I agree with Bill. The Laffly had pre-fabricated armour. The truck in the pictures appears to have the body of an SDKFZ 251 half track mounted on it.

It's a Jagdpanther, obviously, but Where? When? Which one?

We've all seen this Jagdpanther:

http://www.ww2incolor.com/d/8658-2/aln.jpg

I've been trying to figure out where, when and which vehicle it is. I've found the following claims:

France, Normandy, Summer 1944
Southern Germany, Early 1945
Italy, 1945

This leads me to believe that no one really knows when and when the photo was taken (except it's the Western Front, given the American soldier on the top.) If anyone knows the exact story of this jagdpanther, what unit, what crew, who the soldier is in the photo, what his unit is, where the photo was taken, details like that, that would be great!

Thanks so much!

Hello,

I think the Normandy summer 1944 theory can be deleted. The cast armour collar of the main gun was first introduced in September 1944. At this time only in small numbers. The base colour was discussed bevore. In my opinion it is green. The green base colour was first introduced in 1945. So I think this Jagdpanther was made in the last months of war. I don`t know if any Jagdpanther's were sent to units in Italy. As far as I can remember not.
So the photo was most probably made in germany in 1945.

And now to my questions.

The first photo shows an interresting lorry. For sure it is a British Commer. The headlights and the radiator mask looks like a Commer Centaur. But the Centaur wasn't a COE lorry. My question is if this vehicle had a factory own car body or maybee a car body of an other European manufacturer.

The passenger car is most probably a Fiat. But I have no idea which type it is. Maybee a variant of the Fiat 2800?

Thanks in advance. Holger.

Hi Holger,

to Your pic of the truck. It could be a Commer Q 25, 25-cwt -truck.
Please compare it with the pic in Bart Vanderveens Historic Military Vehicles Directory.

Hi Holger:

Regarding your latest two photos:

The truck is for sure a Commer but I think it may be a variant of the N1 series and it looks to me to be a captured civilian truck as I have not seen that model in military service.

For the moment, I agree also on the car, I think it is a Fiat 2800. I am trying to find a different photo and will post it if I do.

Thanks Bill & Bert.

Commer N 1 could fit. It looks like a rather small vehicle. The Fiat could have a car body of a special car body manufacturer. I couln not find a photo for comparison up to now.

The next questions deals with Fiat vehicles, too.

In my opinion, the vehicle of the A.Pi.Pk. 571 is for sure an NSU-Fiat 1100.

The second vehicle could be an NSU Fiat 1100, too. But the form of the footboard and the fender don't fit. Any idea?

I`m not sure about the third vehicle. The door is fastened at the front. And this don't fit to NSU-Fiat. But the used door handle don't fit to Simca and Fiat - so far as I know.

Any help will be welcome.

Regards, Holger.

Hi Holger:

It is my opinion that all three are NSU Fiat cars.

The first two are standard cabriolet models and have the distinctive NSU Fiat badge high in the middle of the grille work.
Also the distinctive cooling louvre door midway down the side of the engine hood/bonnet.

The third photo shows a completely different body with the doors hung from the front instead of the rear and a different front bumper. Still, the badge is also there as is the cooling louvre door.

One explanation may be that NSU Fiat commissioned at least two body builders to supply the standard cabriolet bodies and there are small differences between the two. As well, Gläser built a few limited production bodies on this chassis and your last photo may be one of these.

Hi Holger, hi Bill,

Bill, I think, You are right. In the book of Oswald "Deutsche Autos 1920 - 1945" there are mentioned two body builder firms for the NSU/Fiat 1100 Cabriolet: Drauz and Gläser.

Thanks Bill & Bert.

Could the second vehicle be a NSU-Fiat 1500? The divided bumper was typically for the 1500 and there was a two door cabriolet of the 1500. Only the headlights are not standard. The car body looks not like a serial car body to me. The front fender and footboard arangement is different compared to the standard car body. The frame of the winshild is much narrower, too.

I have another idea about the third vehicle. I have read that NSU-Fiat offered and/or assembled original Fiat cars. This car looks like a standard Fiat 508 C two door cabriolet.
