Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi,
Thanks again for the Demag help. Here I have an automobile parked in front of the Monument aux Morts des Armees de Champagne. One can see who I believe are Luftwaffe soldiers visiting. I think the photo was taken shortly after the May-June, 1940 campaign. I'm sure that the identification of this auto will be easy for you scholars. By the way, the sculptor intended the figure on the right to represent an American soldier (Quentin Roosevelt), the figure in the middle, General Gouraud.
thank you, John

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Sturm:
Photo 1 is a Ford BB model most likely ex-civilian and possibly Belgian.
Phot 2 is a 1940 Chevrolet ex-Belgian army.
Photo 3 is I believe a Magirus, possibly an M-30. Someone should correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hallo Karlik:
If this vehicle was in Japanese service, it must have been captured from the British or Australian forces.
It is a 1941 Ford truck quite typical of those supplied to these armies.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi all,
Thank you very much for your reply, Bill. You are a inexhaustible source of information.
Now is the turn of the motorcycles. I found several photos on Ebay and I can not identify them.
The first photograph shows a NSU motorcycle and Mercedes trucks. I think that the model of the bike is a NSU 251OSL but I'm not sure. As for the trucks they could be Mercedes L1500 or L2000 but I am not too sure.
The other two pictures show motorcycles unknown to me.
Regards Sturm78.

It is a Ford-Marmon-Herrington 3 ton 4x4 Artillery Tractor, Model 19T manufactured in Australia.
Here is a photo from the other side of a restored vehicle.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Sturm:
On your last post, the shape of the windscreen would indicate an L2000 to me.
As to motos, I am totally lost, not my area of research.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi all,
Other 3 images pf PKWs from Ebay.
The first photo is very difficult to identify. I guess it could be a Stower M12 or a Wanderer W11 3L.
I think that the second photo could show a Wanderer W11 2.5L but I am not sure.
Third photo: I guess it could be a Adler Type 12N, a Wanderer W11 2.5L or a Mercedes 260 PKW.
Any ideas?
Regards Sturm78.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi all,
A long time ago I have seen images on the site of Tanxheaven of the Sd.Kfz.11 with a 3 ton Bilstein crane, but I cannot find them back on Internet, except one who is made in the Sinsheim museum, for the site has gone after the crash of their server. Who knows the URL where I can find these images.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hola Sturm:
I would say the first two vehicles are Wander W11 Kubels.
The third is in my opinion one of the later Mercedes Stuttgart 260, with coachwork by Gaubschat in Berlin.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello Sturm,
Bill is right. The first two Kübelwagens are Wanderer W 11, the third one is a Mercedes-Benz type Stuttgart 260.
Some additions:
The first Kübelwagen is a Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 Liter) of the early production series made from 1935 to 1937. This vehicle had a Kfz. 15 car bpdy. Most probably all Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 Liter) of the early production model had this type of car body. Note that the late production model of the Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 Liter) made from late 1937 to 1941 had doors and almost exclusively a four seater Kübelwagen car body.
(By the way: The designation Wanderer W 11 3 Liter is a Wehrmacht designation; in Wanderer documents this type is designated as Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS).
In some sources the Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 Liter) is designated as Wanderer W 14 Kübelwagen. But this is not true! There was a commercial passenger car Wanderer W 14. But this model was a flop. Only the stronger engine of this type was used for the Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 Liter).
The second Kübelwagen is a Wanderer W 11 10/50 PS (2,5 Liter) made from 1929 to 1936. (same thing with the type designation as with the 3 Liter model)
Note that very early models had minor differences to the later serial models like missing hub cabs. Late serial production vehicles had very often a Kfz. 15 car body.
In 1935 and early 1936 the Wanderer W 11 2,5 Liter and 3 Liter models were manufactured at the same time.
Regards, Holger.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Sturm, hi Bill,
to Your pics with the three trucks. The third pic, I think, is not a Magirus, but a Hansa-Lloyd. I will need a little time to ID the truck exactly.
Regards
Bert
