Excuse me for off-topic, but this photo was taken in the city of Zadar in Croatia. At the time when photo was taken, the city was called Zara and it was part of Italy.

The gates behind the truck, with winged lion of St. Mark, are Porta terraferma (Kopnena vrata) designed by Michele Sanmicheli.
Hello Dr. Eisvogel,
Thanks very much for the interesting background information on the photo I posted. It's always nice to be able to place these pics in their proper context.
Cheers,
Max

Hi Markus:

Thanks so much for the reply and sorry for the delayed response.

I agree that the towing vehicle is almost certainly a Morris Commercial CDF. I was a bit reluctant to settle on that ID, as the subject vehicle has a lot of deviations from a British Forces type. However, this one may well be a specific vehicle built for the Dutch Military as a "Test Mule". This I have seen before.

Regarding the AT/AA weapon, thanks for that information also. Other than some very common US and other weapons, I know nothing about them and tend to rely on what I see on Google etc.

Below is a typical Brit CDF for reference.

Bill

Hi Max,

to Your pic of the OM truck. The designation BUD cannot be right. OM produced trucks under the license of Saurer. So the first letter of the type stands for the production series, here B. That´s o.k. The next two letters stand for the engine, for example OD, LD or TD. AFAIK there was no engine UD. For me the truck on Your pic is the type 5 BLD or 6 BLD. Here pics of both types (source of the pics: first pic: http://www.rcforum.ru; second pic: https://reibert.info).

Best regards

Bert

Hello Max,

you can see the same location nowadays through Google Maps.

Just write 'Ulica Među bedemima Zadar' into search engine:

Hello everyone,
I came across this model of a Tiger I and especially it's gun got my attention - hence my two questions:
1/ is this a modeller's invention or were some of the Tigers seen with their guns in grey?

2/ Based on the turret number I assume it could be one of the 503's Tigers seen in Normandy?

Many thanks

Hi Bert,
Could it be a FIAT 1500, ca.1940? I realize the doors are different on this Viotti example but that could possibly be coachbuilder's decision:

Thanks very much, Bert, for the enlightening tutorial on OM/Saurer trucks. I've certainly learned a lot from this thread.
While cleaning up my unsorted bin I came across another pic which based on your and ilfil's previous comments I will tentatively call a 3 BOD. Correct?

Hi Max,
Yep, it is OM 3BOD too. I dare to guess this picture was taken little later than your previous one and it is the same convoy (or only pair of trucks it is?). The place is the same: Zara/Zadar with the famous Porta terraferma on the background; I also dare to guess your previous OM 3BOD, with number plate RoEto-79118, is the second truck here: it is with tilt too and it seems the tailgate is down too.
Cheers!

Hi Max,

thank You very much for the ID of the Fiat 1500 cabriolet.
And You are totally right. The trucks on Your pic are OM type 3 BOD.

Gun barrels from the factory were painted in a grey heat resistant paint. In many cases replacement barrels installed in the field were not camouflaged due to lack of time or materials. Careful study of photos will reveal many tanks especially Tiger I with replacement barrels that have not been camouflaged.
