Hi Rnox,
Why simply "Italian Truck"? It is Fiat 626, NM diesel I guess, which was most used by all services.

Thanks
Rich
Hi Rich,
AFAIK these were transport units equipped with refrigerated trucks/vans, or which bodies have had thermal insulation at least. The loads were everything which needed low temperature storage - meat, some fruits and vegetables, blood, etc. One of the meanings of "Thermos " in German is refrigerated/thermoinsulated vehicle.

Hi,

Have a indentity request, some years ago I found a picture of a unknown vehicle.
Think the picture is taken in May 1940 and showing the nose of the truck and a German soldier.

Hi Bert,
Regretfully not much details are visible but it is definitely a bus and what is visible from the front end reminds me strongly Magirus M50. Coachbuilder's name, perhaps? A bus based on M50 chassis, LWB or normal?
Cheers!

Hi ilfil
Thanks for your reply. I sort of thought thats what it meant but did not see any external fittings or other clues on the vehicles to confirm my suspicions.

Hi Rich,
The door thickness is a good hint the box body was insulated:

Hi Bert, hi Rich, hi ilfil, hi Max,

an addition to the information by ilfil:
There were a few so called Thermos-Kraftwagen-Kolonnen (882, 886, 887, 888, 889). These columns were subordinated to the OKH (Army High Command) belonging to the "Grosstransportraum" with the abbreviation "GTR" (Large Transport Area), on Your pic marked with the two letters "TR". (source of the information: www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de).

To the ID of the truck:
an interesting pic:
the chassis of the truck is the type 802 I think, but with the engine cowling of the type 801. And the cabin is also not original. It is a newer model and must be fitted after the production year.

Regards

Bert

Hi snuffbox,

now I can go on with the ID of the unit of the Berliet truck:
I have found a pic of the same unit with the number 1 (source: ebay). This Hanomag tractor is towing fuel trailers. So this vehicle belongs to the 7th fuel supply motor column. The following batallions had a 7th fuel supply column: 529, 533, 686 and 909. Here an overall view of the supply units of the DAK. And You can read at the batallion 909 "Aus Tunis-Kfz in Afrika aufgestellt" (raised by Tunis-vehicles in Africa). So on our pic is a captured Berliet from Tunis. This truck is not tank truck or tractor like on the other pic, but it could be the truck with the field kitchen of this unit. That´s my theory. What do You think about it?

Regards

Bert

Hi Bert,
Thanks for the ID on that peculiar B-N. That later model cab on the older model chassis had me a little confused. :?

Hello,
I am pretty sure that this is based on the Krupp "Protze" chassis, but please can somebody tell me what the Kfz designation of this vehicle is? I have done quite a number of searches, both in print and on-line, but I cannot find the type.
Many thanks,
Kerry.
