There they were fitted with Thornton double rear bogies. The complete cab and chassis was then shipped to the UK. On arrival, the trucks were then shipped to Dodge at Kew for any final assembly, and all were fitted with the British-built Gantry Recovery body. The information and the pic out of the book: "British Military Trucks of WW II" by Les Freathy.

You nearly got it, Markus. It is the successor of the Mercedes-Benz L 5: the type L 5000, the first water gun vehicle at all, produced in an armored version. It was used several times in Berlin 1931/32. Here two pics:

second pic out of the book "Die Kraftfahrzeuge der Polizei und des Bundesgrenzschutzes" by Werner Oswald.
