Yep, it is ZiS-5 in the middle.
It is possible the letters on the number plate are in Cyrillic and could be "Ca".

Many thanks, ilfil and uncle.

I don't think the ZiS-5 licence plate is Cyrillic - it is a western 'L' not a Cyrillic one. See detail.

I also attach a detail view of the men in the photograph.

Any thoughts please on this small van, requisitioned from a civilian owner in Berlin. I also attach the rear. Could the 'VIII 36' be the date? When did the Wehrmacht start requisitioning civilian vehicles? 1936 seems a bit early to me.

Horch 830BL Pullman Convertible (1937 or later), the most expensive variant of the 830 Type. L is for "lang", the long version of the 830. The 830 was the bestseller among German luxury cars in the 1930s.

Who knows who the Corps Commander is standing in the back of the car? Looks like taken in Poland 1939, or even earlier.

Horch 830B or BL convertible in the front. There were many versions of the 830, even several convertibles. Here a staff car of a LW Corps commander.

Hi John,

to the Saurer truck. It is a truck with a Diesel engine. So there are six possibilities:
type 1 CRD with 60 h.p. 2,7 tons
type 1 CRDv with 70 h.p., 3 tons
type 1 vCRD with 60 h.p., 3 tons
type 1 vCRDv with 70 h.p., 3 tons
type 2 CRDv with 70 h.p., 4 tons
type 2 vCRDv with 70 h.p., 4 tons.
I have the books "Die Österreichischen Saurer-Werke" by Johann Kopacs. For me the nearest are the type 2 CRDv or 2 vCRDv. But I have only a (bad) pic of the type 2 CRDv out of this book for comparing.

Best regards

Bert

Hi John,

now to the other pic with the small van You posted.
You are right. The 'VIII 36' cannot be a date. It is too early for requsitioning. Interesting the text on the rear:
"Our column of vehicles a short time after unloading near to Ratibor (a town in Silesia). So it might be at the beginning of the Polish campaign.
To the vehicle: I think it is a Hansa-Lloyd type "Columbus". Here pic of such a van. Sorry, I have no better pic.

Best regards

Bert

Hi Bert,
Thanks for posting that info re John's Saurer. I have a pic of another Saurer Diesel that looks quite similar to his but I have no type ID. The bonnet vent flaps look similar to those of the 4 BTDv S but the truck appears to be smaller. What is your opinion?
