Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello all, an eBay find...
I'm wondering what this car is? It's said to be in Lille, but I think it has to be a large town nearby- the signpost would indicate that but I can't find anything that looks like this place. Two mysteries for the price of one.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Stuart,
It looks American from around 1936. Maybe a '36 Pontiac Silverstreak? No clue about the location.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello Stuart and Max,
I think Max has it right, as a Pontiac, but the position of the front lights looks more like a 1935 than a '36. The lights on your car are on stalks from the front wings, the '36 came sideways from the upper radiator shroud. The parking lights on the wings suggest a Deluxe model, possibly a 701 Six.
Regards,
Kerry.

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Kerry,
Good point. I was a little confused about the lights. The one on the left looked higher and mounted onside the bonnet, the right one looked lower and wing mounted, but on closer inspection I agree with you that it's a '35.

did you check the following cities in Belgium?
Brugge (Bruges)
Ghent (Gand)
Ieper (Ypres)
Kortrijk (Courtrai)
I took a quick look.
I think the dominant building is the Gerechtshof (Courthouse) in the City of Ieper (Ypres) in West Flanders at the Grote Markt square. You can see the Menenpoort (Menin Gate) Memorial to the Missing at the upper right side of the square.

What a forum... Such team work! I looked and looked before turning to the true experts in all things meaningful. I felt sure that the car was American late gangster vintage, but didn't find it I was certain that you would. And Dr Eisvogel, spot on! I did think "possibly west Belgium and tried Brugge and Ghent but noy Ypres. You are spot on Eisvogel. It certainly is Ypres (or Wipers as the British Tommies called the town).
You've cracked it for me, thank you very much indeed 100/100 + 100 for speed!

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello,
another weirdo... Description says "Italien 1944". Clearly not the best for start-no grille visible, same hood sides, fender trailing curve...
The "step" on the top of the grille reminds me a Packard, the visible part of front fenders is a bit like 1935 Packard 120? But the big headlights seem more "british" to me?(coul be conversion) Body completely coachbuilt? Photo from eBay.de

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello Jose85,
Well spotted, yes, I also think it is a Packard. The horizontally lined section of the bonnet louvre, following a longer grille section, make me think 1939-40. I notice that the moulding on the front door does not extend to the narrower second door and the roof section forms a brow over the windscreen. I think, as you say, a local coach build on a station wagon or touring saloon. The side lights are right, but the headlights do look as if they were replacements.
Good identification from a limited amount of evidence, good job!
Regards,
Kerry.
