Yes, it's real. The exact date's and details of the re-numbering can be found here: http://www.pietvanhees.nl/251/251-renumbering.htm

My (vintage) website stil uses frames.

If you want to read the whole document on version numbers start at http://www.pietvanhees.nl/251/ and chose versions in the menu on the left.

Piet, do you have any idea when this renumbering came to light, all my poor "old" books are now out of date because of it !

Anyone have access to the various Gerätliste editions: E.g. D 97 from 1.3.1942 and D 97/1+ from 15.11.1942 and 1.7.1943? According to "Waffen-Revue Nr. 87" in the 12.4.1945 data of Gerätliste, D 97/1+, Sd Kfz 251/3 is listed as mittlerer Funkpanzerwagen (Sd Kfz 251/3) /m FuPzWg and 251/4 mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen (J G) [sic] (Sd Kfz 251/4) / m SchPzWg (JG) so at least these designations remained more or less the same post-'43.

Somewhere 2008. I was much more active in 251-land than. One observing reader noticed the strange situation. Together we narrowed it down to january 1943. What information gets down the line of command at what point is always difficult. What commanders write in their strenght reports is often mixed.

Hello to all :D; the description of the source leaves me doubts....................

Mittlere Kommandopanzerwagen or not?

Source: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Panzer-Stu ... Swd1teAMya

Any ideas about the radio equipment on the vehicle? Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

I am becoming very confused by this thread, was the main difference between the 251/3 and the 251/6 not just that the later had an Enigma Machine ?

If that really was the difference then this last photo can't be a 251/6 because the man facing the camera would be where it was located.

Then again I could, as I've said, just be completely confused by the thread.

Hello Alan :D; glad to hear you.....basically, no one can speak about Sd Kfz 251/3 Mittlerer Funkpanzerwagen before 1943 because it did not exist..........and after 1943 (AFAIK) the Sd. Kfz 251/3 had the stern (star) type antenna instead of the frame type atop the vehicle......still trying to figure the difference in radio/signal equipment between both of them. Ok just a little riddle. Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

Hi Piet,

thank You very much for this correction. So some of the German sources are wrong.

Well, wrong is a big word. Translations, simplifications, a wrongly copied list. it's al interpretation. These guys writing the reports where doing that in another world, long gone. 100% sure is a luxury when your fighting a war.
