Reihenwerfer
I've seen your question for morre info. Spielberger mentiones in his book "Beute-Kraftfahrzeuge und -Panzer der deutschen Wehrmacht" following:
1) Leichter Reihenwerfer (16 Rohre) auf Fahrgestell Somua MCG, Kennummer S307(f)
16 mortars ( official name "Reihenwerfer-Schießgerät RG 16") on 360 degrees turnable platform, lavitation 40-90 degrees.
36 were produced
2) Schwerer Reihenwerfer (20 Rohre) auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL, Kennummer S303(f)
16 were produced. The mortars were French 8,14cm-Granatwerfern 278(f)
3) 8-cm-Raketen-Vielfachwerfer auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL, Kennummer S303(f)
The fireing device was originally a development for Waffen-SS and should have been placed on Panzerwerfer 42 (armoured version of Maultier). Hitler ordered great scale trials with it in march 1944. In march of 1942 a picture was taken in Waffenfabrik Brünn of such a construction!
In the end six were produced on Somua chassis for Schnelle Brigade West.
It was possible to shoot all 48 rockets at once
Spielberger states that most if not all were build by Baukommando Becker.

Hi Franzl
Thanks for your info , the only problem I have is that
8-cm-Raketen-Vielfachwerfer auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL,
Kennummer S303(f) is build for the Schnelle Brigade West the
forrunner of the 21 Panzerdivision
There were in Mai 1944 in the 10/Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 155
4 x 8-cm-Raketen-Vielfachwerfer auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL.
so 2 are missing ?
For the Schwerer Reihenwerfer (20 Rohre) auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL,
Kennummer S303(f) I can only find 8 vehicles in the 21 Panzerdivision,
in the Panzer-Grenadiers-Regiment 125 and 192 each with 4 Somuas
does anyone knows were the other 8 vehicles were ?
Thanks for your info
Regards Jos

Re: Vielfachwerfer / Reihenwerfer
Jos, could it be that they were with SS-Vielfachwerfer-Batterie 521?

Re: Vielfachwerfer / Reihenwerfer
Hello Daniel
From what I found on Axis Forum and Achtung Panzer and Lexikon der Wehrmacht from the
SS-Vielfachwerfer-Batterie 521. It had in 1943 before " Zitadelle" Kursk 4 x 8-cm-Raketen-Vielfachwerfer
auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL and was under command of the II SS Panzer-Corps during Kursk , later the
Vielfachwerfer was placed on a Maultier- i.s.o.the Somua halftrack and were under command of different SS-Korpsen .
How the Waffen-SS recieved the 8-cm-Raketen-Vielfachwerfer auf Fahrgestell Somua MCL would be a great story ,
because AFAIK know all Vielfachwerfers on Somua halftracks were made by Oberst Becker in Paris , but I have no
info on this . The only man who can help us I think is Martin Block ??
Regards Jos

The launch ramps on that one seem to me to be very long , compare them to the other pics posted since .@ndrew wrote:Hello,

Re: Vielfachwerfer / Reihenwerfer
Also it has some more interesting featues: no camo (Panzergrau), biger drivers room then typical maultiers, silver rockets seems to be prototypes and in general it looks like test shooting more then combat action.
I almost know where the phot was taken-that's why it's so important for me
If any one got this I can buy a scan.

Thanks!!
Re: Vielfachwerfer / Reihenwerfer
Here are two pictures showing a Pz IV and what I think is a 8cm Reihenwerfer auf SPW Somua S307 (f) ("16 French 81mm Brandt mortars on a single mount") next to a Pz IV, destroyed somewhere in Normandy in 1944. They probably belonged to 21st. Pz.Div. We can count a row of 8 tubes on the left of the 2nd picture.
The pictures were taken by a British officer, Captain Norman Grist

The tall trees in the background remind of the picture of a similar destroyed 8 cm Reihenwerfer auf S307(f) posted by Bayerlein spirit on March 12, 2004 (at 08 :42) in this thread :
