US soldier ID?

#1

Post by raddock » 14 May 2006, 12:07

I have a US helmet with a full name and middle initial on it, does anyone know if this will be enough information to obtain a
record?

I am sending off the SF-180 form (NARA) are there any other suggestions where to go with this information?

Any help would be appreciated.

Try the WWII National Memorial registry. If the soldier died of combat related injuries, he will be listed. If he is buried in an overseas cemetery, a link will be provided to the American Battle Momuments Commission (ABMC) site. The ABMC site will give details on his date of death, his unit, and his grave location. If he was brought home and buried in a national or private cemetery, all you will get will be his name, serial number, home of record, and the nature of death, KIA, DOW, etc...
