The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List

I just discovered a few days ago that those microfilms exist and i am amazed! They really give a profound insight and are very valuable for the research of my family history. Thanks to everybody and especially John and Jeff for providing those rolls for free,

However, Jeff, i have a question concerning your collection. I noticed that something got mixed up on t-315 R1192. Until Frame 741 everything is fine but from frame 742 on it contains the exact same frames/files as the corresponding t-315 R1190. Did this happen while you uploaded it by mistake or did you get the roll this way?
On Johns copy of this role everything is fine, however i am looking for a particular map for which the resolution is too low.

Sorry Josef, didn't see or forgot to answer your post. I get swamped somethimes.

Most like I recieved T315 R1190 and R1192 in two parts each and just put them together incorrectly. Well, maybe not. My rolls seem correct.

For my research about the FHQ "Wehrwolf" (near Winniza / Ukraine), I need the "Lagekarten OST" (OKW daily situation maps) for the months JANUARY, FEBRUARY and MARCH 1944.

It seems hard to find them as all other years are covered and online available. It seems to me that 1944 is left behind. Who can help me out!? Looking forward!

Already did, and NO. Not available at John C. That's why I asked my question here. Will even pay a reasonable fee for them.

Getting copies of the maps could be expensive. Most of the OKW situation maps at NARA are on color transparencies. To make readable copies requires a large format scanner that can scan at 1,200dpi. Each scan takes about 10 to 15 minutes. If you want three months of situation maps that is about 120 maps. At a scan rate of four maps an hour, your project may require as much as 30 hours of labor.

Over the next few months I will be uploading between 1 - 2 TB new material to the Free List. After I get about 100 Mb uploaded, I will make a new post to you can access this material. During this time I probably won't be as helpful as usual in answering requests.

I will try and correct all the faulty rolls mention on this thread during that time.

Hi,

My internet at home isn't working and hasn't been for almost Three weeks (I might have to change provider) so for now there is no way that I can help. I have noticed that some of the big files (8-12 Gb) do give problems, most likely some kind of time-out error. You can PM me your email address and I'll ask someone to send you the file.

The plan to upload a bunch of new files has stalled at 178 Gb because of internet problems.

I am expanding the list and reorganizing the way the files are stored. The biggest change is that files over 4 Gb on Drive 2, have been broken into 3 Gb parts to try and ease downloading problems.

Note that rolls concerning a certain units maybe location on one, some or all of the drive (there will be three or four drives when I am finished). You are going to search to see what is there.

Drive 1 .......... 1005 Gb
Drive 2 .......... 698 Gb

If there is problems accessing Drive 2, it is most likely because I am still uploading to it about 12 hours a day. Once it reaches 800 - 900 Gb then I'll move on to Drive 3.
