After Action Reports, or Heer equivilent
After Action Reports, or Heer equivilent
Hi All,
Appologies if Im posting in the wrong place but Ive only just joined and am working my way round the site,
Can anybody please tell me if during world war two the Heer wrote, what these days would be called an after action report. I assume they must have done.
Who would have written them and who would have they been sent to?
What was the format and are there any online examples or any books with examples of them.
Any help would be very much appriciated

Re: After Action Reports, or Heer equivilent
After action reports were commonly written at the regiment, division, corps and perhaps higher levels. The reports were generally forwarded to the writing unit's higher headquarters where they were filed with the war journal.

Re: After Action Reports, or Heer equivilent
I've post translations of a couple recently
Combat Report German-Romanian Forces 4 July 1941
A brief report on the course of taking the height 166
The might also be one for the Sturmgeschütz Abteilung 190 (there are a whole bunch of After-Action Reports for this unit) and Panzer-Jäger Abteilung 670. Maybe more.

If you are interested in the German units in Normandy and their withdraall from northern France, this OKH record has great after action reports from several of the units involved. Generously made available by Jeff Leach nearby: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=223939
