Italian naval records in the US archives?

#1

Looking at finding individual submarine war diaries, submarine flotilla diaries, etc for Italian units.

Is there a finding guide similar to the ones published for German naval records?

Contact the National Archives branch at College Park, Maryland. They've taken most of the USN archives from the period. They answer inquiries routinely, but may be not quickly.

Yes that is obvious. I am asking members here if they have discovered the information I am specifically requesting.

You mean outside the Archives? That wasn't clear from your post. Have you Googled for them? archives.org has some really arcane shit.

FYI I found the following info: Submarine records can only be found in the Rome Archives. At NARA you can find a few naval-related records in the T821 microfilm series but that is about all. These are mostly records captured during the invasion of Sicily. The Italian naval archives were hidden near Rome and avoided falling in the hands of the Germans. They remained in Italian hands and thus were not microfilmed as the German ones.
