pointers?

#1

Post by I have questions » 07 Dec 2019, 03:16

hello, I'm rather new to archival research. I want to know where I can find documents or in-depth information about German operations in Pomerania-West Prussia-East Prussia from January-May 1945. I have a few books on the subject but I feel as though they are missing bits of information (namely unit strengths and detailed OOBs). Thank you for the help.

For 1945, I recommend checking www.germandocsinrussia.org. You should find more late war documents than what was captured by the Western Allies at war end.

Hello,

German docs in Russia does have a Heeresgruppe Weichsel section with some interesting documents. NARA have 5 rolls for Heeresgruppe Weichsel, I havn't found any relevant army, corps, or division records with NARA for that time period yet, but there is the odd OKH document of interest.

Check out the forum topic for the ftp server, viewtopic.php?f=48&t=213672, there are some maps and nara rolls of interest, also the free nara rolls topic, viewtopic.php?f=48&t=223939.

I am interested in the eastern front in 1945 too, so hopefully others can provide more pointers.

John.

Dig further into into germandocsinrussia. There are many folders related to 1945 in the Army / Corps / Divisions sections. For example 12474/370 and following are from 1945.
