Big update tonight. On the 22.12.2022, Invenio had 351.272 digital files, and as of tonight, there are 354.759 digital files. Including the Waffen-SS Generalkommandos.
Haven't checked other things, but this is already nice.

Big update from Freiburg on the Bundesarchiv's Invenio tonight. The headline file count went from 352.455 to 354.759, i.e. +2304 files.

These include:
- 50 files of Waffen-SS Corps records
- 546 files added to RH 19 Heeresgruppen, so there are now 2888 out of 3741 files digitised, from essentially all army groups
- about 447 files added for the Luftwaffe within RL
- Nachlass Guderian - 112 files, one sampled and it was accessible
- Nachlass Halder - 208 files, one sampled and it was accessible
- Nachlass Oscar Ritter von Niedermayer - 5 of 12 files, ditto
- Nachlass GFM von Weichs, 38 of 50 files, ditto

This is pretty much what has been promised since the beginning of autumn 2022 in the 'temporaer gesperrte Bestaende' list, but with extra army group files.
https://www.bundesarchiv.de/DE/Navigati ... aende.html (the PDF linked here will be surely updated and changed soon)

There were also some updates to Berlin-Lichterfelde collections as well as to RH 2 OKH, Kriegsmarine, etc, but the records above seem to be the main additions.

ETA: cross-posted with Piet because I was checking out the goodies.

For reference: Bundesarchiv updates fall:
- early Monday morning (sometimes as early as 4am German time) for the preceding Friday/Saturday early morning,
- Tuesday evening (for the preceding Monday/Tuesday early morning)
- Thursday evening (for the preceding Wednesday/Thursday early morning)

There's no change log, update blog, or way of narrowing a search to the latest uploads, so spotting what's new flows from regularly checking, or having a baseline so that if you come back months later you can appreciate the growth. I don't search for every keyword of interest every update, just a few that seem to tell me if there's been a Freiburg update or a Berlin-Lichterfelde update. An occasional search term might then reveal something which potentially could have gone up weeks or months ago.

The 'temporaer gesperrte Bestaende' page with the listing of Freiburg files closed for scanning gives some hints at what might be digitised soon, but there are usually some extras over and above the schedule, and no way of knowing when they might be done with them.

I'd suggest running keyword searches in Invenio - it could be as simple as a Luftwaffe search narrowed to digitised files, then count off the files in the record groups within RL. In some cases, a 'higher' keyword like Luftwaffe, Wehrmacht etc might not reveal all the files digitised within a record group, so it's worth doing some further keyword searches to cross-reference. For the Heer I do OKH, Heeresgruppe and for all military records, Kriegstagebuch. Then other keywords less often - I didn't check 'Infanterie' for months, for example, since they were obviously not making any progress with divisions.

It's also worth doing the keyword search for all files, to establish a baseline. As the inventorying and cataloguing does develop, these will grow as well.

Once you have a record of the digitised/undigitised file counts, you can run further searches every so often and should be able to spot where the additions are. Then investigate them.

This is my count for Luftwaffe
Luftwaffe 158,440 2349 15161-15608 4,647-4617 3526-3517 within RL > 3942

This goes, total files for a Luftwaffe search, the number digitised in Feb 2022, total number listed as digitised with the most recent increase noted to the right, total number within the 'Norddeutsche Bund und Reich' section to 1945, then an added comment on how many are within RL, again with the previous number contrasted with the latest update.

As noted up-thread, the Deutsche Dienststelle records under the BRD section were added in 2022, so this is why there's a big discrepancy between the total supposedly digitised and the number within RL record groups.

The total file count for "Luftwaffe" is actually now 170,980, nearly 140K within the pre-1945 section, so the cataloguing has added descriptions to 22,000 files.

And that just as valuable as posting the files!

Another above-average update from Freiburg, +602 files, seemingly stragglers from Tuesday's +2304 file upload.

I saw that the W-SS Gen.Kdo files werent completely uploaded, maybe they are now.
Edit: yes, they have added some digitals to the W-SS Gen.Kdo. material.

Generalkommando IV. The SS-Panzer Korps successfully destroyed their documents in the spring of 1945.
Only two archival reference numbers with one document and a clear map (by no means a staff map). It's too bad!

Hi all,

There was a big update tonight, with the current number of digitalized files at 357.599. I have no clue whatsoever about the contents.

OKH went from 7224 to 7552 files after two multi-hundred-file updates including tonight's, but RH 2 has not grown - seems to be in RH 5 OKH / Chef des Kriegskarten- und Vermessungswesens, which is now up to 1083 digitised files.

Also some Kriegsmarine files I think, no significant leaps elsewhere (OKW, Luftwaffe, Heeresgruppe or Kriegstagebuch searches more or less the same).
