90th Infantry Division

#1

Post by strops » 27 Feb 2021, 12:31

Hi togehter,

I'm looking for the G-2 Reports of the 90th Infantry Division from 45-01-11 to 45-01-25. Is there anybody who has these files and want to share/ trade them? For example I have some G-2 Journal and File Datas for the III US Corps for Jan 45. Thanks a lot.

Regards
Alex

Hi together,

unfortunately the G2-Reports of the 90th ID for Jan 45 are still not available. Does anyone has a copy of this files?

I'm looking for it because I do some research about the 167th Volks-Grenadier-Division and the 90th US ID was the only Division in contact with the 167th VGD from mid January 45. Especially the POW Interrogations for the battles for Nieder- and Oberwampach should be included in these files.

Thanks.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Some years ago when I was working on the EPW Capture Rate Study I pulled the III Corps G-2 file, which had pretty complete PW Cage reports, but few EPW Interrogation reports, so I looked for the January 90th ID G-2/S-2 files and came up with nothing, which is odd, since the earlier June-August files are complete. I suspect they were misfiled, but have never tracked them down.

HI Richard,

thanks a lot for your information. I know that the G-2 reports of the 90th ID are in the RG 390-2.2 (G-2 Journal and File section), but since NARA is closed there is no chance to get them from the archive. So I thought maybe anyone has them already. Otherwise I have to wait for the re-opening of NARA.

Alex

Jan 45 G-2 periodic reports should be in 390-2.2, at least according to the index. You can sometimes find these in the corps (III Corps ?) G-2 journal and file section. If that all fails, try the G-2 journal and file section for adjacent divisions.

You might also want to look for IPW reports from 1st Army (101-2.13) for January unless III corps was under Third Army ? I dont remember and the IPW reports for before late February 1945 are missing for Third Army.

There might be some CSDIC reports in RG165 on the 167th VGD, but I dont have a copy of the index.

There might be a Combat Interview CI-197 from the 90th division which might have some information.

As also mentioned, NARA is firmly closed with no indication of when it reopens so this is all somewhat academic unless someone on the forum has copies.

Hi Tom,

you are right, some G-2 reports are also included in the G-2 Journal and File of the III Corps. This corps was under 3rd Army in the Ardennes, so maybe there are also some reports in the 3rd Army G-2 Journal and Files.

RG 165 seems a large RG with a lot of data, maybe the index wasn't copied at all.

Finally, we all need to wait for NARA re-opening, before there are any new chances to see, whats in a RG or not. Hopefully all the external researchers are there, when the shutdown will end.

Regards
Alex
