Looking for German OKW Eastern Front Situation Maps 1944
Hello everyone,
I've found digitized copies of the OKW Lage Ost Situation Maps up until 1944 online on John Calvin's website, but the years 1944 and 1945 are missing. Does anyone know if digitized copies of the 1944 and 1945 maps exist, and if so, where I can find them?
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know they have not been digitized. John was scanning a lot of those for a long time, but slowed down some. If you can get to NARA/College park, or hire a researcher, they are easy to scan.Paul Baumer wrote: ↑09 Dec 2022 12:28Hello everyone,

I have a few Lage Ost 1:1mil for Feb 45, and some HrsGp Weichsel.

This is a recurring question. John didn't copy the 1944 files and no one bothered doing so when visiting NARA. This hasn't changed for, what, 10 years?Paul Baumer wrote: ↑09 Dec 2022 12:28I've found digitized copies of the OKW Lage Ost Situation Maps up until 1944 online on John Calvin's website, but the years 1944 and 1945 are missing. However, BAMA has started scanning some of these maps. Go to Invenio, and check e.g., RH 2-KART/10923, it leads to a map for August 9th, 1944 on the Western Front. You can hope similar maps for the Eastern front will also show up.

For what it is worth, the Russian archives have now uploaded Lagekarten der Heeresgruppe "Mitte" which includes some examples from 1944 & 1945

How can you download a high resolution copy ? Every time I have tried, I just a get a small, low-res file.

I hope it is not like Pamyat-Naroda, which blocked the downloads of the highest-resolution maps. There I increased resolution to the desired level and laboriously used PRINT SCREEN and reassembled the maps from the captures. It works if you only need a couple of makes but does take time.

For the ones on the Russian archives site? You have to click on Print and a new tab opens up with the image. Then click on cancel print and right click on the image to enable 'Save Image'. Very time consuming and even then some of the maps are not to the best resolution standard.

Bundesarchiv/Invenio have started to upload some of the Lage Ost maps for 1945 - 3 for February, 2 for March and 1 for April so far. They are the usual top quality when it comes to image resolution.

Re: Looking for German OKW Eastern Front Situation Maps 1944
Thanks for all your answers. The germandocsinrussia link is a great help, and I'll keep an eye on Invenio if more maps pop up on there. Strange how after all those years no one has bothered to digitize the entirety of the Lage Ost 1944 and 1945 maps.
What's also strange is that the Lexikon der Wehrmacht website has snippets of the 1944 and 1945 maps but not the whole thing. When you track an individual infantry division, you can see these snippets for almost every month of the war, including 1944 and 1945. An example is the 35th Infantry Division here: https://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gl ... n/35ID.htm
However, people have been asking for the entire 1944 and 1945 maps on their forum as well, and no one seems to have them.
